2021 Ypres Rally
The 2021 Ypres Rally (also known as the Renties Ypres Rally Belgium 2021) was a motor racing event for rally cars that was held over three days between 13 and 15 August 2021. It marked the fifty-seventh running of the Ypres Rally. The event was the eighth round of the 2021 World Rally Championship, World Rally Championship-2 and World Rally Championship-3. It was also the fourth round of the 2021 Junior World Rally Championship. The 2021 event was based in Ypres in West Flanders and was contested over twenty-four special stages totalling in competitive distance. Local heroes Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe won their home rally. Their team, Hyundai Shell Mobis WRT, were the manufacturer's winners. Jari Huttunen and Mikko Lukka won the World Rally Championship-2 category, while Yohan Rossel and Alexandre Coria won the World Rally Championship-3 category. 2021 World Rally Championship
The 2021 FIA World Rally Championship was the forty-ninth season of the World Rally Championship, an auto racing competition recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) as the highest class of international rallying. Teams and crews competed in twelve rallies for the World Rally Championships for Drivers, Co-drivers and Manufacturers. Crews were free to compete in cars complying with World Rally Car, Rally Pyramid and Group R regulations; however, only manufacturers competing with World Rally Cars homologated under regulations introduced in 2017 were eligible to score points in the Manufacturers' championship. Julien Ingrassia (born 26 November 1979) is a retired French rally co-driver. Working with Sébastien Ogier, he became World Rally Champion in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 with Volkswagen Motorsport, 2017 and 2018 with M-Sport World Rally Team, and in 2020 and 2021 with Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT. Rally career While starting his professional life as a salesman, Julien Ingrassia discovered rallying and made his debut as a codriver in 2002 in France's Critérium des Cévennes. Sébastien Ogier (born 17 December 1983) is a French rally driver, competing for the Toyota Gazoo Racing Team in the World Rally Championship (WRC), who is teamed with the co-driver Julien Ingrassia. He has won the World Rally Drivers' Championship 8 times, in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, & 2021. A special stage (SS) is a section of closed road at a stage rallying event used for timed speed tests. Racers attempt to complete the stage in the shortest time. A race on a special stage is coordinated such that each competing racer begins after a set interval, to reduce the chance of impedance by other competitors. Each special stage is usually between and in length. Some stages may be as long as in length. A rally usually comprises approximately 15–30 special stages, over multiple days of an event. 2021 Junior World Rally Championship
The 2021 FIA Junior World Rally Championship was the twentieth season of the Junior World Rally Championship, an auto racing championship recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, running in support of the World Rally Championship. The Junior World Rally Championship is open to drivers under the age of thirty—although no such restriction existed for co-drivers—competing in identical one-litre Ford Fiesta R2s built and maintained by M-Sport. The championship began in April 2021 at the Croatia Rally. Tom Kristensson and Joakim Sjöberg were the defending drivers' and co-drivers' champions while Sweden was the defending Nations' Trophy winner. The Belgium Ypres Westhoek Rally (BYWR) founded by Frans Thévelin in 1965 is one of the most famous rallies in the European Rally Championship, the Belgian Rally Championship, the British Rally Championship, and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. In its history, the rally has had some famous pilots and co-pilots participating, such as Didier Auriol, Colin McRae, Alister McRae, Juha Kankkunen, François Duval, Michèle Mouton, Jean Todt, Armin Schwarz and Ari Vatanen among others. The World Rally Championship (abbreviated as WRC) is the highest level of global competition in the motorsport discipline of rallying, owned and governed by the FIA. There are separate championships for drivers, co-drivers, manufacturers and teams. The series currently consists of 13 three to four-day rally events driven on surfaces ranging from gravel and tarmac to snow and ice. Rally is a wide-ranging form of motorsport with various competitive motoring elements such as speed tests (often called ''rally racing),'' navigation tests, or the ability to reach waypoints or a destination at a prescribed time or average speed.
