2021 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship
The 2021 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship was held from May 17 to 23 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Because of cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this was the first of two events for mixed doubles teams to qualify for the 2022 Olympics as part of the 2022 Winter Olympic Qualification process. The top seven National Olympic Committee teams from the championship qualified directly for the Olympics. China, as the host country for the Olympics, was already guaranteed an entry for a team selected by its national Olympic committee. The remaining two qualifying teams were determined at the 2021 Olympic Qualification Event, which was open to any nation that qualified for the 2020 or 2021 world mixed doubles championships (not already qualified for the Olympics) as well as the top three nations from the 2021 Pre-Olympic Qualification Event. Tahli Gill
Tahli Gill (born 8 September 1999) is an Australian curler who resides in Brisbane. She currently skips her own team and plays mixed doubles with partner Dean Hewitt. Career Gill started curling at age 11. Her mother Lynette is also a curler, as well as Tahli's sisters Kirby and Jayna. The four Gills sometimes play together, such as when they, along with Laurie Weeden, won the 2018 Australian Women's Championship. They then represented Australia at the 2018 Pacific-Asia Championship, where they finished in sixth place out of the seven teams. Aku Kauste
Aku Kauste (born 17 November 1979) is a Finnish curler from Helsinki. He is currently the skip for the national team of Finland. Kauste is one of the most successful curling players in Finland, with over 20 medals in the Finnish Curling Championships (juniors, men's, mixed, mixed doubles). Career Kauste started curling in 1994 with his father Timo Kauste. In 1998, Kauste made his first international appearance at the World Junior Curling Championships. Kauste played in the 2002 and 2003 World Curling Championships with Team Finland, skipped by Markku Uusipaavalniemi. Oona Kauste
Oona Kauste (born 4 January 1988, in Espoo) is a Finnish curler from Helsinki. She is currently the skip of the Finnish National Women's team. Career Women's Kauste has represented Finland in seven European Curling Championships. She was an alternate at her first European Championships in 2009. The team, skipped by Ellen Vogt placed 8th. She played second and as a skip at the 2011 European Curling Championships, placing 12th. She returned the following year playing third for Anne Malmi, placing 10th. She returned to the Euros at the 2013 European Curling Championships playing second for Puustinen. Marie Turmann
Marie Kaldvee (born 23 January 1995 as Marie Turmann) is an Estonian curler from Järveküla, Estonia. She currently skips the Estonian women's curling team. Career Juniors Turmann played for the Estonian team at the 2012 Youth Winter Olympics, playing third on the team, which finished in last place. In the mixed doubles event, she was paired with Italy's Alessandro Zoppi. They would be eliminated after losing their only game. After playing in five European Junior Curling Challenges Turmann finally qualified for the World Junior Curling Championships in 2015. Ben Fowler (born 9 December 1993) is an English curler focused on mixed doubles. He is part of the British Curling Podium Potential program. He currently lives in Glasgow. Career Fowler started curling in 2004 at the only rink in England at the time, Fenton's Rink. He quickly took to the sport and started work towards international curling. In 2013 he moved to Glasgow to focus on his training at the Braehead, Greenacres and Stirling curling rinks. Fowler is now part of the British Curling Podium Potential program. Tomáš Paul (born 3 April 1988 in Prague) is a Czech curler. Curling career Men's Playing of Charles University, Paul has played in two Winter Universiades. The first was the 2011 Winter Universiade, where Paul threw second stones for the Czech team, skipped by Lukáš Klíma, winning a bronze medal. He played in the 2013 Winter Universiade as well, with Klíma skipping. They had less success, finishing in 7th place. Zuzana Paulová (born 28 January 1993 as Zuzana Hájková) is a Czech curler. Curling career Women's As a junior curler, Paulová represented the Czech Republic in four World Junior Curling Championships. Her first trip there was the 2010 World Junior Curling Championships throwing lead rocks for Anna Kubešková. The team finished in 8th place. Hájková returned to the World Juniors in 2012, skipping a team of Iveta Janatová, Klára Svatoňová and Eva Málková while throwing third stones. Ling Zhi (; born April 6, 1994) is a Chinese curler from Harbin. Career Ling represented China at the 2014 World Junior Curling Championships, where his team finished in last place with a winless 0–9 record.
