2021 Weltklasse Zürich
The 2021 Weltklasse Zürich was an outdoor track and field meeting in Zürich, Switzerland. Held on 28–29 August 2021 at the Letzigrund, it served as the finals of the 2021 Diamond League – the highest level international track and field circuit. It was the first time that Zürich exclusively hosted the Diamond League finals, as the 2020 Diamond League finals were cancelled due to COVID-19. It was also hailed as the best single-weekend track and field event of the year 2021. The first day was highlighted by Ryan Crouser winning his first shot put Diamond League title, and Berihu Aregawi and Francine Niyonsaba winning the new road 5K finals. On the second day in the 1500 metres races, women's 1500 m Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon beat World champion Sifan Hassan, but on the men's side the reverse happened as World champion Timothy Cheruiyot bested Olympic champ Jakob Ingebrigtsen. Permanently settled for over 2,000 years, Zürich was founded by the Roman Empire, Romans, who called it '. However, early settlements have been found dating back more than 6,400 years (although this only indicates human presence in the area and not the presence of a town that early). 5K Run
The 5K run is a long-distance road running competition over a distance of . Also referred to as the 5K road race, 5 km, or simply 5K, it is the shortest of the most common road running distances. It is usually distinguished from the 5000 metres track running event by stating the distance in kilometres, rather than metres. Among road running events, the 5K distance is mostly popular with novice or infrequent runners or joggers, as it is comparatively easier to complete the distance without endurance training. The 5K distance also makes the distance suitable for people looking to improve or maintain their general physical fitness, rather than develop long-distance running abilities. The brevity of the distance means that less time is required to take part in the activity and that people from a wide range of ages and abilities may participate. From a physiological perspective, five kilometres is towards the low end of endurance running. The combination of the activity's simpl ...
