2021 Texas Rangers Season
The 2021 Texas Rangers season was the 61st of the Texas Rangers franchise overall, their 50th in Arlington as the Rangers, and the 2nd season at Globe Life Field. The Rangers, despite an 18-18 start, would finish with a 60-102 record which was the 3rd worst record just behind the Baltimore Orioles and Arizona Diamondbacks. Outfielder Joey Gallo and starting pitcher Kyle Gibson were also traded at the trade deadline to the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies respectively. American League West
The American League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. The division has five teams as of the 2013 season, but had four teams from 1994 to 2012, and had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment. Although its teams currently only reside along the West Coast of the United States, west coast and in Texas, historically the division has had teams as far east as Chicago. From 1998 (when the NL West expanded to five teams) to 2012, the AL West was the only MLB division with four teams. The current champion of this division is the Houston Astros. Joe John Gatto (born June 14, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is currently a free agent. Amateur career Gatto attended St. Augustine College Preparatory School in Richland, New Jersey, and pitched for the school's baseball team. Professional career Los Angeles Angels The Los Angeles Angels selected him in the second round of the 2014 MLB draft and he signed with the Angels, receiving a $1.2 million signing bonus. Gatto split his professional debut season of 2014 between the AZL Angels and the Orem Owlz, going a combined 2–1 with a 5.33 ERA and 16 strikeouts over 27 innings. Rafael Montero (baseball)
Rafael Montero (born October 17, 1990) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). Montero signed with the New York Mets as an international free agent in 2011, and made his MLB debut with them in 2014. He has also played in MLB for the Texas Rangers (baseball), Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners. Minor League career Montero signed with the 2011 New York Mets season, New York Mets as an international free agent on January 20, 2011. David Dahl (baseball)
David Martin Dahl (born April 1, 1994) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the San Diego Padres organization. He was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the first round of the 2012 MLB draft out of Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, Alabama. Dahl made his major league debut with the Rockies on July 25, 2016, and was an All-Star in 2019. He also previously played for the Texas Rangers. Amateur career Dahl attended Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, Alabama. As a freshman, he made the school's varsity baseball team as a shortstop. Designated For Assignment
Designated for assignment (DFA) is a contractual term used in Major League Baseball (MLB). A player who is designated for assignment is immediately removed from the team's 40-man roster, after which the team must within seven days, return the player to the 40-man roster, place the player on waivers, trade the player, release the player, or outright the player from the 40-man roster into Minor League Baseball. Governance MLB player transactions are governed by ''The Official Professional Baseball Rules Book''. In Major League Baseball, a player to be named later (PTBNL) is an unnamed player involved in exchange or "trade" of players between teams. The terms of a trade are not finalized until a later date, most often following the conclusion of the season. Postponing a trade's final conditions or terms is often done for several reasons. First, the team receiving the PTBNL might not be certain which position they want to fill, so this type of deal gives them more time to figure it out. Second, this type of arrangement gives the team receiving the PTBNL more time to evaluate the available talent on the other team. David Nathaniel Lowe Jr. ( ; born July 7, 1995) is an American professional baseball first baseman for the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball (MLB).
