Bob Nielson
Bob Nielson (born September 28, 1959) is an American football coach. He is the head football coach at the University of South Dakota, a position he had held since the 2016 season. Nielson was the head football coach at Ripon College (1989–1990), Wartburg College (1991–1995), the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire (1996–1998), University of Minnesota–Duluth (1999–2003, 2008–2012), and Western Illinois University (2013–2015). His Minnesota–Duluth Bulldogs won the NCAA Division II Football Championship in 2008 and 2010. Nielson grew up in Marion, Iowa, and is a 1982 graduate of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. He received his master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1988. He began his coaching career in 1981 as an assistant at Wartburg and was promoted to defensive coordinator in 1986. The 2021 North Dakota State Bison football team represented the North Dakota State University in the 2021 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Bison competed as members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference and were led by third-year head coach Matt Entz. They played their home games at Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota. The Bison finished their regular season with a 10–1 record (7–1 in conference), losing only to South Dakota State. They were seeded second in the FCS postseason tournament and received a first-round bye; they then defeated Southern Illinois, East Tennessee State, and James Madison to reach the championship game. The South Dakota–South Dakota State football rivalry (also the South Dakota Showdown Series) between the South Dakota Coyotes and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits is a yearly rivalry match-up in football between the two largest public universities in the state of South Dakota: the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and South Dakota State University in Brookings. History South Dakota and South Dakota State are both members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference in the FCS. The football series began in 1889 and has been played a total of 114 times as of 2018. The 2021 South Dakota State Jackrabbits football team represented the South Dakota State University as a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference during the 2021 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Jackrabbits were led by 25th-year head coach John Stiegelmeier and played their home games on campus at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium in Brookings, South Dakota. The Jackrabbits were 8–3 (5–3 in MVC, third) in the regular season and advanced to the FCS semifinals, but lost at Montana State to finish at 11–4. Hanson Field is a 16,368-seat multi-purpose stadium in Macomb, Illinois, USA. The stadium which opened in 1950 is home to the Western Illinois Leathernecks football team and track and field team.
