2021 Sam Houston Bearkats Football Team
The 2021 Sam Houston Bearkats football team represented Sam Houston State University in the 2021 NCAA Division I FCS football season as a member of the Western Athletic Conference. The Bearkats were led by eighth-year head coach K. C. Keeler and played their home games at Bowers Stadium. The Western Athletic Conference and ASUN Conference announced the formation of the WAC–ASUN Challenge (AQ7) for the 2021 season on February 23, 2021. The Challenge included the four fully qualified Division I (FCS) members of the WAC ( Abilene Christian, Lamar, Sam Houston , and Stephen F. Austin) and Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, and Jacksonville State of the ASUN Conference. The winner of the challenge received an auto-bid to the NCAA Division I FCS football playoffs. Ryan Carty
Ryan Carty (born August 9, 1983) is an American college football coach. He is the head football coach at the University of Delaware, a position he had held since the 2022 season. Playing career Raised in Somerville, New Jersey, Carty played high school football at Somerville High School. Carty played as a quarterback at Delaware from 2002 to 2006. He was a backup quarterback for the entirety of his career, including when Delaware won the NCAA Division I-AA national championship in 2003. He was named a team captain in his senior season and was projected to be the Blue Hens' starting quarterback, but lost the position to transfer and future Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco. 2021 Dixie State Trailblazers Football Team
The 2021 Dixie State Trailblazers football team represented Dixie State University—now known as Utah Tech University—as a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) during the 2021 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They were led by third-year head coach Paul Peterson and played their home games at Greater Zion Stadium in St. George, Utah. Due to the NCAA's transition rules, they were not eligible for the 2021 FCS Playoffs. Dixie State did not play a full WAC schedule in 2021 due to previous non-conference contracts. This was Dixie State's final season under that name; the school will change its name to Utah Tech University effective with the 2022–23 school year. The Trailblazers nickname is not affected.
