2021 Paraguayan División Intermedia
The 2021 División Intermedia season, named ''"Cincuentenario del Club Atlético 3 de Febrero y Homenaje al Lic. Miguel Ángel Cañete Alderete"'', was the 103rd season of the second-tier league of Paraguayan football and 24th under the Paraguayan División Intermedia name. The season began on 9 April and ended on 26 October 2021. The fixtures for the season were announced on 15 January 2021. The competition returned after a one-year hiatus as the 2020 seasons of the lower-tier club tournaments of Paraguayan football were cancelled by the Paraguayan Football Association due to the COVID-19 pandemic. General Caballero (JLM) won their first División Intermedia title with four matches to spare, following a 4–1 victory over Rubio Ñu on 27 September 2021. The División Intermedia ( en, Intermediate Division), also known as the Segunda División ( en, Second Division), is the second tier professional football league in Paraguay. It is organized by the Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol. Overview Since 1910 the second division tournaments have changed rules, number of teams and names. As of 2006, División Intermedia is the name for the second division and 16 teams are part of it. The champion and the runner-up of this league gains the right to participate in the Liga Paraguaya: Primera División, the Paraguay's top division of football. The last three teams are relegated to the third division (called "Primera de Ascenso" for teams from Gran Asunción and Primera División Nacional B for teams outside of the Gran Asunción area). Club Atlético 3 de Febrero is a professional Paraguayan football club from Ciudad del Este, the capital city of the department of Alto Paraná. The club was founded in 1970, and named after St. Blaise Day, a national holiday throughout many Hispanic countries. 3 de Febrero have played 9 seasons (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2018) in the Primera División Paraguaya. The Unión del Fútbol del Interior ( en, Football Union of the Interior) or UFI is an association affiliated to the Paraguayan Football Association that was founded in 1927 to organize and govern football outside of Asunción, specifically on each of the different Departments of Paraguay. The UFI is constituted by the clubs and leagues that are part of the Departmental Football Federation from each Department in Paraguay. Club tournaments organized by the UFI gives chances to teams from all over Paraguay to reach the first division by clearing lower division levels. The Campeonato Nacional de Interligas (Spanish for ''National Championship of Interleague'') is the biggest football event involving teams with combined players from different clubs of every regional leagues in Paraguay from all departments. The 2020 División Profesional season (officially the Copa de Primera TIGO-Visión Banco 2020 for sponsorship reasons) was the 86th season of the Paraguayan Primera División, the top-flight professional football league in Paraguay. The season began on 17 January and ended on 30 December. The fixtures for the season were announced on 16 December 2019. Olimpia were the defending champions after winning both tournaments of the 2019 season. The Primera División B (''First Division B'': in English), also known as Primera División B Metropolitana or simply Primera B Metropolitana in order to distinguish it from the Primera División B Nacional, is the metropolitan tournament of the Paraguayan Tercera División.
