2021 Oklahoma Sooners Softball Team
The 2021 Oklahoma Sooners softball team was an American college softball team that represented the University of Oklahoma during the 2021 NCAA Division I softball season. The Sooners were led by Patty Gasso in her twenty-seventh season, and played their home games at OU Softball Complex. They competed in the Big 12 Conference, where they finished the season with a 56–4 record, including 16–1 in conference play. The Sooners won the 2021 Big 12 Tournament, and qualified for the 2021 NCAA Division I softball tournament. They advanced to the 2021 Women's College World Series, where they defeated Florida State in three games to win their fifth championship in program history. Patty Gasso
Patricia Marie Gasso ( née Froehlich; born May 27, 1962) is an American softball coach for the Oklahoma Sooners. She has been the head softball coach at the University of Oklahoma since 1995. She has led the Sooners team to seven national championships (2000, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022, and 2023) and has compiled a career record of 1,456–345–2 and a winning percentage of . Kinzie Hansen
Kinzie Hansen (born October 12, 2001) is an American college softball player for the Oklahoma Sooners, and a member of the United States women's national softball team. Early life Hansen was born to Jason and Nicole Hansen. She played travel ball for the OC Batbusters, and finished the 2018 summer with a .460 batting average, 37 hits, 23 RBIs, 21 runs, 11 home runs and a .990 fielding percentage, and helped lead her team to a national runner-up finish. High school career Hansen attended Norco High School in Norco, California. During her freshman year in 2016, she hit .426 with seven home runs, a team-best 37 RBI, 18 walks and a .525 on-base percentage. Cougar Softball Stadium
Cougar Softball Stadium, formerly known as Cougar Softball Field and Cougar Softball Complex, is the home field for the Houston Cougars softball team located on the campus of the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. Following the majority of the Cougars' inaugural season in 2001, Cougar Softball Stadium was dedicated 5 May 2001. The first game in the stadium was also played that day against the UAB Blazers. While the stadium was playable, it was not fully completed until the next season. The stadium hosted the 2008 Conference USA Softball Championship. Houston Cougars Softball
The Houston Cougars softball team is the college softball team of the University of Houston. The team is a member of the Big 12 Conference as a Division I (NCAA), Division I team. Their home games are played at Cougar Softball Stadium on-campus. The team was established in 2001, and was the regular season champion of Conference USA three times. The Cougars are coached by Kristin Vesely. UTEP Miners
The UTEP Miners is the name given to the sports teams of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). They are informally referred to as the Miners, UTEP, or Texas–El Paso. UTEP was a member of the Western Athletic Conference from 1967 to 2005, when they joined Rice, Tulsa, and SMU in leaving the WAC for Conference USA. Jocelyn Aloha Pumehana Alo (born September 23, 1998) is an American professional softball player for the Oklahoma City Spark of the Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF). She played college softball player for the Oklahoma Sooners. As a freshman in 2018, she was named NFCA National Freshman of the Year, and named USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022. She is the NCAA Division I career leader in home runs. Jayda Coleman (born September 27, 2001) is an American college softball player for the Oklahoma Sooners. She also represented the United States at the 2019 U-19 Women's Softball World Cup and USA Softball International Cup. High school career Coleman attended The Colony High School in The Colony, Texas. During her high school career she was a six-time All-State honoree and three-time All-American. During the 2017 season, she hit .653 with 12 home runs and 81 hits in 40 games, and she led the Dallas-Fort Worth area with 74 runs scored and 53 stolen bases as The Colony won the Class 5A state championship. Nicole Mendes
Nicole Rangel Mendes is an American former college softball player and current member of Mexico women's national softball team. She played college softball for the Oklahoma Sooners where she helped lead the Sooners to four consecutive Women's College World Series appearances from 2017 to 2021, and won the national championship as a freshman in 2017 and redshirt senior in 2021. She represented Team Mexico at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Tiare Rose Jennings (born June 5, 2002) is an American college softball player for the Oklahoma Sooners. As a freshman in 2021, she was named NFCA National Freshman of the Year, Softball America Freshman of the Year and was selected as a first-team All-American. Early life Tiare Rose Jennings was born to Maria and Ignacio Jennings in Torrance, California and grew up in San Pedro. She is of Samoan, Filipino and Mexican descent. Grace Turk (née Lyons; born October 17, 1999) is an American former college softball player and a member of the United States women's national softball team. She played college softball for the Oklahoma Sooners where she won three consecutive Women's College World Series from 2021 to 2023. Early life Lyons was born to John and Erin Lyons. She was born in Bitburg, Germany, and grew up in Peoria, Arizona, since her father was an F-16 pilot in the Air force for 20 years. Her father, played college ice hockey for the Air Force Academy.
