2021 New England Revolution Season
The 2021 season was the 26th in the history of the Major League Soccer club New England Revolution. The season began on April 17, 2021 and in addition to the league, the Revolution were also to compete in the 2021 U.S. Open Cup, before the competition was canceled in July. The 2021 season saw the Revolution win their first Supporters' Shield in club history by having the best record in the regular season. They were eliminated in the conference semifinals of the MLS Cup playoffs after losing to New York City FC in a shootout. The New England Revolution is an American professional soccer club based in the Greater Boston area that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS), in the Eastern Conference of the league. It is one of the ten charter clubs of MLS, having competed in the league since its inaugural season. The club is owned by Robert Kraft, who also owns the New England Patriots along with his son, Jonathan Kraft. The name "Revolution" refers to the New England region's significant involvement in the American Revolution that took place from 1775 to 1783. New England plays their home matches at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, located 21 miles (34 km) southwest of downtown Boston. The club played their home games at the adjacent and now-demolished Foxboro Stadium, from 1996 until 2001. Cristian Anderson Penilla Caicedo (born 2 May 1991) is an Ecuadorian football midfielder who plays for Serie A side, Club Deportivo Cuenca. New England Revolution II is a professional soccer club based in the Greater Boston area that competes in the MLS Next Pro, the third division of American soccer. The team is owned by, and operates as the reserve team of the Major League Soccer club New England Revolution. The team plays at Gillette Stadium. The team was announced as a member of League One on October 9, 2019. Emmanuel Agyenim "Ema" Boateng (born 17 January 1994) is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a winger.
