2021 IIHF World Championship Division III
The 2021 IIHF World Championship Division III was scheduled to be an international ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Group A tournament would have been held in Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg from 18 to 24 April and the Group B tournament in Cape Town, South Africa from 19 to 25 April 2021. On 18 November 2020, both tournaments were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2022 IIHF World Championship Division III
The 2022 IIHF World Championship Division III was an international ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Group A tournament was held in Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg from 3 to 8 April and the Group B tournament in Cape Town, South Africa from 13 to 18 March 2022. After the tournament was cancelled the two previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all teams stayed put in their divisions. The United Arab Emirates secured the top spot in Group A and were promoted to Division I, while South Africa won the Group B tournament and were promoted to Group A. During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus were suspended from the 2022 and 2023 editions of the World Championship. International Ice Hockey Federation
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments. Rules of play for IIHF events differ from hockey in North America and the rules of the National Hockey League (NHL). Decisions of the IIHF can be appealed through the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. The IIHF maintains its own hall of fame for international ice hockey. The Group A tournament was held in Zagreb, Croatia from 25 to 30 April and the Group B tournament in Reykjavík, Iceland from 18 to 23 April 2022. After the tournament was cancelled the two previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all teams stayed put in their respective groups. China won Group A and got promoted to Division IB, while Iceland won Group B and got promoted to Group A. In order to fill each group of the World Championships back to their normal amount of teams, the IIHF made the decision following the tournament not to relegate Israel or Mexico, who finished last in Groups A and B respectively, but instead to promote the Netherlands and Georgia, the runners-up of each group. The 2022 IIHF World Championship Division IV was an international ice hockey tournament organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The tournament was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from 3 to 8 March 2022. This was the first edition of the Division IV tournament, which had been cancelled the previous two years. The IIHF World Championship Division III are an annual sports event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It was the lowest level of the IIHF World Championships until the formation of Division IV for 2020. Organization When the IIHF reorganized its World Championships hierarchy in 2001, which included replacing "pools" with "divisions", nations outside of the top 40 were placed in Division II Qualification, trying to qualify for participation in the following year's Division II championship.
