The 2021 Houston Astros season was the List of Houston Astros seasons, 60th season for the Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise in Houston, Texas, their 57th as the Astros, ninth in both the American League (AL) and American League West, AL West division, and 22nd at Minute Maid Park. Four Astros players gained selection to the 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, 2021 All-Star Game, tied for the second most from any team in baseball. The four were second baseman José Altuve, shortstop Carlos Correa, outfielder Michael Brantley, and relief pitcher Ryan Pressly, although none of them participated in the game. 2021 American League Championship Series
The 2021 American League Championship Series was the best-of-seven series in Major League Baseball (MLB) between the Boston Red Sox and the Houston Astros. The series determined the American League pennant winner, the Astros, who advanced to the 2021 World Series. The series was played in a 2–3–2 format, with the first two and last two (if game 7 had been necessary) games played at the home ballpark of the higher seeded team, the Astros. Ryan Pressly
Thomas Ryan Pressly (born December 15, 1988) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has also played in MLB for the Minnesota Twins. Originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 11th round of the 2007 MLB draft, Pressly was chosen by the Minnesota Twins in the 2012 Rule 5 draft, and made his MLB debut with the Twins in 2013. The Twins traded Pressly to Houston in 2018, where he serves as the team's closer. In 2019, he set a major league record for consecutive scoreless appearances, with 40. He was an MLB All-Star in 2019 and 2021. Michael Brantley
Michael Charles Brantley Jr. (born May 15, 1987) is an American professional baseball left fielder for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Cleveland Indians. The son of former MLB player and hitting coach Mickey Brantley, he is a left-handed batter and thrower. After starring for Fort Pierce Central High School in Fort Pierce, Florida, the Milwaukee Brewers selected Brantley in the seventh round of the 2005 MLB draft. During the 2008 season, the Brewers traded him to the Indians along with other prospects for pitcher CC Sabathia. Brantley made his MLB debut with the Indians in 2009. Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. Carlos Javier Correa Oppenheimer Jr. (born September 22, 1994) is a Puerto Rican professional baseball shortstop who is a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Houston Astros, who selected him first overall in the 2012 MLB draft, and for the Minnesota Twins. Correa made his MLB debut with the Astros in 2015, and won the American League (AL) Rookie of the Year Award. Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order. 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game
The 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 91st Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The game was hosted by the Colorado Rockies and played at Coors Field on July 13, with the American League (AL) defeating the National League (NL) 5–2. The American League of Professional Baseball Clubs, known simply as the American League (AL), is one of two leagues that make up Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada. It developed from the Western League, a minor league based in the Great Lakes states, which eventually aspired to major league status.
