2021 European Team Championships
The 2021 European Athletics Team Championships was held in four cities, on 29–30 May (Super League) and on 19–20 June 2021. For the very first time, the ETC was not held on the same weekend for all leagues. At the European Athletics Team Championships medals are not awarded in individual events. Grouping and host cities It had been decided in 2018 that, starting in 2021, a new system would be introduced for grouping teams in the ETC. This would aim to have 8 teams in the Super League (plus the host country if it had not already qualified), 12 teams in the First and Second Leagues, and all the remaining teams in the Third League. The city of Minsk, Belarus, initially designated as the Super League venue, was replaced by Chorzów in November 2020 due to the political situation in Belarus. Chorzów ( ; ; german: link=no, Königshütte ; szl, Chorzōw) is a city in the Silesia region of southern Poland, near Katowice. Jake Wightman (born 11 July 1994) is a British middle-distance runner competing primarily in the 1500 metres. He won the gold medal at the 2022 World Championships, the first global gold in a middle distance event for a British male since Seb Coe's 1500 m title at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Cameron Christopher David Chalmers (born 6 February 1997) is a Guernsey born British track and field sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres. The Guernsey record-holder for the 400 metres, he currently competes for both Guernsey and Great Britain. Biography Early life and career Born in Guernsey, Chalmers was educated at Elizabeth College and began running with the local Guernsey Island Amateur Athletic Club in 2010. Chalmers competed in a variety of running events in 2013 before focusing on 400 m events from 2014 onwards. After leaving school, Chalmers secured a place at the University of Bath, where he would train under Dan Cossins. Piotr Lisek (born 16 August 1992) is a Polish athlete specialising in the pole vault. He won bronze medals at the 2015 and 2019 World Championships and the silver medal at the 2017 World Championships. He is the first Polish vaulter to jump over 6 meters.
