2021 Connecticut Sun Season
The 2021 WNBA season was the 23rd season for the Connecticut Sun franchise of the Women's National Basketball Association. It was also the 19th season for the franchise in Connecticut. The season began on May 14, 2021, at the Atlanta Dream. The Sun started the season strongly and went on a five-game winning streak before losing their first game. They lost two of their last three games in May to finish with a strong 6–2 record in that month. The month of June was streaky for the Sun, with a three-game losing streak book-ended by a two-game winning streak and a three-game winning streak. Those streaks left the team with a 5–3 record in June. The Sun went 3–1 in July, the last month before the Olympic break. The team headed into the Olympic break with a 14–6 overall record. The first game back from the Olympic break was the inaugural WNBA Commissioner's Cup, where the Sun faced off against the Seattle Storm in Phoenix. WNBA Eastern Conference
The Eastern Conference of the Women's National Basketball Association is made up of six teams. From the league's second season in 1998 through 2015, the WNBA operated separate playoff brackets for its Eastern and Western Conferences. Each conference's playoff was divided into two playoff rounds, the Conference Semi-Finals and the Conference Finals, with the Conference Finals winners receiving Conference Championships and advancing to the WNBA Finals to determine the WNBA champion. In the final years of this playoff scheme, all in-conference playoff series were best-of-three. Since 2016, the league has abandoned separate conference playoffs in favor of a single league-wide playoff bracket. DiJonai Carrington
DiJonai Carrington (born January 8, 1998) is an American basketball player for the Connecticut Sun. She played college basketball for Stanford and later Baylor before being drafted by the Connecticut Sun in the 2021 WNBA draft. Early life Carrington attended Horizon Christian Academy in San Diego, California. She scored over 2,000 career points for Horizon, while averaging 18.8 ppg, 13.5 rpg, 4.0 apg, and 2.5 spg. She was named a McDonald's All-American and a Jordan Brand Classic All-American. Following her outstanding high school career, she committed to play for Stanford. College Stanford Carrington played basketball for four years at Stanford. During her time there, she helped the Cardinal win 2 Pac-12 Tournament Championships (2017 and 2019). Stephanie Jones (basketball)
Stephanie Jones (born July 7, 1998) is an American basketball player. She has played for the Washington Mystics and the Connecticut Sun. Early life Jones played high school basketball at Aberdeen and helped lead them to two state championships as a freshman and a junior. During her season season, she averaged 28.4 points, 12 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 3.7 steals, and 2 blocks. She suffered a torn ACL in January of her senior year. Jones was named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List and was the #51 overall player in her class. College Maryland Jones played a limited role in her freshman season only averaging 9.1 minutes with 0 starts and scoring 4.1 points per game. Her next three years saw her role and time increase. Morgan Bertsch
Morgan Bertsch (born April 20, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for the Chicago Sky of the WNBA. She was drafted by the Dallas Wings in the 2019 WNBA Draft. She played college basketball at UC Davis. College career Bertsch played her collegiate basketball for the UC Davis Aggies. Coming out of high school, Bertsch didn't play any AAU basketball and UC Davis was the only Division I school to offer her out of high school. During her freshman season, Bertsch redshirted from the basketball team, but competed for the UC Davis Aggies women's track and field team as a high jumper. Bertsch finished in a tie for fourth at the Big West Conference Championship with a jump of 1.71m (5-07.25 ft).
