2021 Conference USA Football Season
The 2021 Conference USA football season was the 26th season of college football play for Conference USA (C-USA). The season started on August 28, 2021 and ended on December 23, 2021. The conference consisted of 14 members in two divisions. It was part of the 2021 NCAA Division I FBS football season. Previous season Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Old Dominion did not play the 2020 season, leaving the conference with 13 participating teams. The rest of the conference played the full season, with some games postponed or cancelled for reasons relating to the pandemic. The Marshall Thundering Herd won the East Division, while the UAB Blazers won the West Division. In the 2020 Conference USA Football Championship Game, the Blazers defeated the Thundering Herd 22–13. NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision
The NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), formerly known as Division I-A, is the highest level of college football in the United States. The FBS consists of the largest schools in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). As of 2022, there are 10 conferences and 131 schools in FBS. College football is one of the most popular spectator sports throughout much of the United States. The top schools generate tens of millions of dollars in yearly revenue. The Chuck Bednarik Award is presented annually to the defensive player in college football as judged by the Maxwell Football Club to be the best in the United States. The award is named for Chuck Bednarik, a former college and professional American football player. Voters for the Maxwell College Awards are NCAA head college football coaches, members of the Maxwell Football Club, and sportswriters and sportscasters from across the country. Outland Trophy
The Outland Trophy is awarded to the best college football interior lineman in the United States as adjudged by the Football Writers Association of America. It is named after John H. Outland. One of only a few players ever to be named an All-American at two positions, Outland garnered consensus All-America honors in 1898 as a tackle and consensus honors as a halfback in 1899. Outland had always contended that football tackles and guards deserved greater recognition and conceived the Outland Trophy as a means of providing this recognition. The Dave Rimington Trophy is awarded to the player considered to be the best American football center in college football. Dave Rimington was a center who played at the University of Nebraska from 1979 to 1982. Jacob Cowing (born February 4, 2001) is an American football wide receiver for the Arizona Wildcats. He previously played at UTEP. Early life and high school Cowing grew up in Maricopa, Arizona and attended Maricopa High School. As a senior, he had 28 receptions for 872 yards and 10 touchdowns. Frank Harris (born March 27, 1999) is a former American football quarterback who played seven seasons for the UTSA Roadrunners. College career As a true freshman in 2017, Harris redshirted and did not play. In 2018, Harris missed the season due to knee injuries. As a redshirt-sophomore in 2019, Harris started four games before separating his shoulder and missing the rest of the year.
