2020–21 Eredivisie
The 2020–21 Eredivisie was the 65th season of the Eredivisie since its establishment in 1955. The season began on 12 September 2020 and concluded on 16 May 2021. On 2 February 2021, the KNVB announced that effective immediately clubs would be allowed to make an extra substitution for suspected concussions as part of an IFAB sanctioned trial. This trial will allow teams to make up to six substitutions across four breaks in the match instead of five substitutions across three breaks in the match. Ajax, having won the title in 2018–19, were the title holders, since the 2019–20 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands after 25 matchdays and the title was not awarded. The 2020–21 Eerste Divisie, known as Keuken Kampioen Divisie for sponsorship reasons, was the sixty-fifth season of Eerste Divisie since its establishment in 1955. It began on 28 August 2020, and came to an end on 12 May 2021. Relegation for reserve teams On 1 August 2020, the KNVB detailed on its website in what scenarios the reserve teams in the league would have been relegated from the Eerste Divisie. SC Cambuur
SC Cambuur, also known as Cambuur Leeuwarden, or simply Cambuur, () is a Dutch football club from the city of Leeuwarden formed on 19 June 1964. They currently play in the Eredivisie, the top tier of Dutch football, after winning the 2020–21 Eerste Divisie title. The home ground of the club is the 10,000-capacity Cambuur Stadion. The club usually plays in yellow shirts and blue shorts. The origin of the club's emblem is the coat of arms of the House of Cammingha, a Frisian noble family. 2020–21 KNVB Cup
The 2020–21 KNVB Cup, for sponsoring reasons officially called the TOTO KNVB Beker, was the 103rd season of the annual Dutch national football cup competition. It commenced on 29 August 2020 with the first of two preliminary rounds, and concluded on 18 April 2021 with the final played at De Kuip in Rotterdam. Ajax were the defending champions as the winners of the 2019 final, with the 2020 final cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands. Ajax went on to successfully defend their title after defeating Vitesse 2–1 in the final. As winners, Ajax would participate in the 2021 Johan Cruyff Shield against the 2020–21 Eredivisie champions. 2019 Johan Cruyff Shield
The 2019 Johan Cruyff Shield was the 24th edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield ( nl, Johan Cruijff Schaal), an annual Dutch football match played between the winners of the previous season's Eredivisie and KNVB Cup. The match was contested by Ajax, as both the 2018–19 Eredivisie champion and the 2018–19 KNVB Cup winners, and PSV Eindhoven as runners-up of the Eredivisie.
