The following article is a summary of the 2020–21 association football, football season in Belgium, which is the 118th season of competitive football in the country and will run from August 2020 until June 2021. Men's football League season Promotion and relegation The following teams had achieved promotion or suffered relegation going into the 2019–20 season. Belgian First Division A =Regular season= Belgian First Division B Amateur Leagues All leagues from the third level and below, were cancelled in January 2021 with just a few matches played, as measures taken by the Belgian government against the spread of COVID-19 prohibited amateur football. The tables below represent the standings at the time the leagues were cancelled, however the season will be recorded as a "blank season", meaning all results are void and no teams will be promoted or relegated for sportive reasons. 2020–21 Belgian First Division A
The 2020–21 Belgian First Division A was the 118th season of top-tier football in Belgium. As part of a proposal by the Jupiler Pro League's board of directors accepted by the General Assembly on 15 May 2020, the 2020–21 season would involve shortened playoffs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Only the top four teams would play for the title, while teams five through eight would play for the remaining ticket into Europe. The league fixtures were announced on 8 July 2020. Team changes Waasland-Beveren were originally relegated to the Belgian First Division B, as they were the bottom-placed team when the 2019–20 Belgian First Division A stopped prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. R.F.C. Tilleur-Saint-Nicolas was a Belgian football club from the municipality of Saint-Nicolas, a suburb of Liège. It was created in 1899 as Tilleur F.C. and was assigned the matricule n°21. History The club was an inaugural (1909) participant in the Belgian Second Division, winning the league championship in 1920 without qualifying for the first division. In 1925 the name changed to R. Tilleur F.C. and the club won the second division again, this time qualifying for the top division. Union Namur, commonly known as UR Namur or Union Royale Namur, is a Belgian football club from the city of Namur. It plays in the third amateur division. The media simply refer to them as "Les merles." Until 2018, the team was known as UR Namur, however as the team faced relegation from the 2017–18 Belgian Third Amateur Division into the Belgian provincial leagues, the team instead merged with newly promoted Fosses to form Union Royale Namur Fosses-La-Ville and retain its place in the Belgian Third Amateur Division. AS Verbroedering Geel is a Belgian association football club based in Geel, province of Antwerp. Currently, they play in the Belgian Provincial Leagues. History Founded in 1926 as Meerhout Sport, the club received the matricule number 893. In 1966, Meerhout Sport merged with the other club from the city named Hand in Hand, with matricule 2169. The new club took the name F.C. Verbroedering Meerhout. At the end of the season, the club reached the Belgian Promotion. They were relegated to the provincial level in 1987.
