The 2020–21 Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers men's basketball team represented Mount St. Mary's University during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mountaineers were led by third-year head coach Dan Engelstad, and played their home games at Knott Arena in Emmitsburg, Maryland as members of the Northeast Conference. They finished the season 12-11, 9-7 in 2020–21 Northeast Conference men's basketball season, NEC Play to finish in 4th place. They defeated 2020–21 Wagner Seahawks men's basketball team, Wagner and 2020–21 Bryant Bulldogs men's basketball team, Bryant to be champions of the 2021 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament, NEC tournament. They received the conference's automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, NCAA tournament where they lost in the First Four to 2020–21 Texas Southern Tigers basketball team, Texas Southern. Dan Engelstad
Dan Engelstad is an American college basketball coach, and current head coach of the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers men's basketball team. Playing career Engelstad played college basketball at Division III St. Mary's College of Maryland, where he graduated as the school's all-time leader in assists. Coaching career Upon graduation, Engelstad joined Milan Brown's staff at Mount St. Mary's where he was on staff for the Mountaineers' 2008 NCAA tournament team. He followed Brown as an assistant coach at Holy Cross in 2010, where he stayed until 2013 when he accepted the head coaching position at Southern Vermont. Inheriting a program that was 1–24 before he took over, Engelstad led the Mountaineers to a 16–10 overall record, including wins over a nationally ranked Williams featuring Duncan Robinson.
