2020–21 Japan Figure Skating Championships
The 2020–21 Japan Figure Skating Championships were held in Nagano, Nagano from December 23–27, 2020. It was the 89th edition of the event. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, and ice dance. The results were part of the Japanese selection criteria for the 2021 World Championships. Qualifying Competitors either qualified at regional and sectional competitions, held from September to November 2020, or earned a bye. Skaters without a bye, but who train abroad, were awarded an exemption from the qualifiers to limit travel during the COVID-19 pandemic; the affected skaters were men's singles skater Koshiro Shimada, pair Riku Miura / Ryuichi Kihara, and ice dancers Rikako Fukase / Eichu Cho and Kana Muramoto / Daisuke Takahashi. With her skating partner, Daisuke Takahashi, she is the 2022 Four Continents silver medalist, the 2022-23 Japanese national champion and the 2022 Denis Ten Memorial Challenge champion. Rikako Fukase
Rikako Fukase ( ja, 深瀬 理香子; born August 12, 1997) is a Japanese figure skater. She formerly represented Japan in ice dancing, skating with Aru Tateno and Eichu Cho (Oliver Zhang) at a total of four ISU Figure Skating Championships, ISU Championships. With Cho, she is the 2020 NHK Trophy silver medalist and a two-time Japan Figure Skating Championships, Japanese national medalist. Fukase has also competed in synchronized skating. 2021 World Figure Skating Championships
The 2021 World Figure Skating Championships were held in Stockholm, Sweden from March 22–28, 2021. Figure skaters competed for the title of world champion in men's singles, ladies' singles, pairs, and ice dance. The competition was used to determine the entry quotas for each federation at the 2022 World Championships and was the first qualification event for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Stockholm was announced as the host in June 2018. It was the first time that Stockholm had hosted the World Championships since 1947 and the first time that Sweden had hosted since 2008. The World Championships were the only ISU Championship event held during the 2020–21 season, as the European, Four Continents, and World Junior Championships were all cancelled. Ice Dance
Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976.
