2020–21 Dumbarton F.C. Season
The 2020–21 season will be Dumbarton Football Club's third in Scottish League One, the third tier of Scottish football, having finished sixth in the division in 2019–20. Dumbarton also competed in the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup. Story of the season July After the premature end to the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom, preparations for the new campaign began in July with manager Jim Duffy signing a one-year contract extension. He was followed by defenders Morgyn Neill, Ryan McGeever and forward Stefan McCluskey in committing to the club for the new season. Young Player of the Year Rico Quitongo was next to sign a new deal, and he was joined by midfielder Ruaridh Langan. Striker Denny Johnstone then became the club's first new signing of the summer - joining after leaving Falkirk. Striker Robert Jones and captain Stuart Carswell were next to sign new deals. Dumbarton (; also sco, Dumbairton; ) is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, on the north bank of the River Clyde where the River Leven flows into the Clyde estuary. In 2006, it had an estimated population of 19,990. Dumbarton was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Strathclyde, and later the county town of Dunbartonshire. Denny Johnstone (born 9 January 1995) is a Scottish professional footballer who last played as a striker for Scottish League One club Dumbarton. Johnstone began his senior career with Celtic, leaving the club in 2014 without making a first-team appearance and signing for English Championship club Birmingham City. Johnstone spent time on loan with Conference club Macclesfield Town and League Two clubs Cheltenham Town and title-winners Burton Albion in 2014–15 and spent the 2015–16 season on loan at Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship. Sam Wardrop (born 20 October 1997) is a Scottish footballer, who last played as a defender for Ettan Fotboll club Ljungskile SK. His previous clubs include Celtic, Dundee United and Dumbarton. Career Wardrop started his career at Celtic, and captained the club's Under-20s to victory in the 2017 Scottish Youth Cup final. Ryan Tierney (born 30 January 1998) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a striker for Stenhousemuir. Career Tierney began his career with Airdrie, joining Hamilton Academical in 2011, turning professional in July 2014.
