The following is a list of events relating to television in Ireland from 2020. Television In Ireland
Television in the Republic of Ireland is available through a variety of platforms. The digital terrestrial television service is known as Saorview and is the primary source of broadcast television since analogue transmissions ended on 24 October 2012. Digital satellite (from Sky Ireland, Saorsat and other European satellite service providers are available) and digital cable (from Virgin Media Ireland) are also widely used. The Irish satellite fill-in service (Saorsat) is via Ka-Sat using the Irish KA band spot and has been available since June 2011. While many people receive their television via Saorview, which is broadcast by 2RN, more than half subscribe to multichannel television networks. The biggest single multichannel television network in Ireland is Sky Ireland, which broadcasts digital satellite television services. ITV plc is a British media company that holds 13 of the 15 regional television licences that make up the ITV network (Channel 3), the oldest and largest commercial terrestrial television network in the United Kingdom. COVID-19 Pandemic In The Republic Of Ireland
The COVID-19 pandemic in the Republic of Ireland is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In the Republic of Ireland, it has resulted in 1,687,668 cases and 8,293 deaths. 89.4% of those who died were aged over 65 and 76% had underlying illnesses with a median age of death at 82 years old. During 2020 and 2021, the country had one of the world's lowest excess death rates, which is an overall indicator of the pandemic's impact, at an estimated 12.5 deaths per 100,000 population. The virus reached the country in late February 2020 and cases soon confirmed in all counties. The government first introduced public health and economic measures to mitigate its impact by shutting schools, childcare facilities and cultural institutions in March 2020. Virgin Media One
Virgin Media One, also called Virgin One, is an Irish free-to-air television channel owned by Virgin Media Ireland (part of Liberty Global), operated through its subsidiary Virgin Media Television. The channel was known until 30 August 2018 as TV3 (and until 2006 as TV Three, launched on 20 September 1998), becoming Ireland's first commercial television channel. Its name was changed to Virgin Media One on the same day. The channel broadcasts a mix of Irish programming and acquired programming from ITV and others. ''This Morning'' is a British daytime magazine programme that is broadcast on ITV1. It debuted on 3 October, 1988 and is broadcast live every weekday from 10:00am to 12:30pm across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. The programme features a variety of news, showbiz, fashion, beauty, lifestyle, home and garden, food, tech, live phone ins, competitions and more. The programme is broadcast on ITV1, STV or UTV (depending on ITV region) across the British Islands and on Virgin Media One in the Republic of Ireland. Catch up is available on ITVX and STV Player. The show was originally presented by husband and wife duo Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan for more than a decade after its launch. ITV (TV Network)
ITV is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network. It was launched in 1955 as Independent Television to provide competition to BBC Television (established in 1936). ITV is the oldest commercial network in the UK. Since the passing of the Broadcasting Act 1990, it has been legally known as Channel 3 to distinguish it from the other analogue channels at the time, BBC1, BBC2 and Channel 4. ITV was for four decades a network of separate companies which provided regional television services and also shared programmes between each other to be shown on the entire network. Each franchise was originally owned by a different company. Emily Barker (born 2 December 1980) is an Australian singer-songwriter, musician and composer. Her music has featured as the theme to BBC dramas '' Wallander'' and '' The Shadow Line''. Lottie Ryan
Lottie Ryan (born 15 October 1985) is an Irish television and radio presenter with Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), Ireland's national radio and television station. She is a daughter of the broadcaster Gerry Ryan. She studied media and television in college for five years before moving to New York City where she worked for CBS on ''The Good Wife''. Several radio stations, including Radio Nova 100FM, have requested her to go on air as a DJ. She does the entertainment on RTÉ 2fm across weekdays and presented the national breakfast show ''Breakfast Republic ''Breakfast Republic'' was the Irish national broadcaster RTÉ 2fm's breakfast radio show. Kai Widdrington
Kai Widdrington (born 23 August 1995) is an English dancer and choreographer. In 2010, he was the Junior World Latin American champion. In 2012, he reached the final of the sixth series of ''Britain's Got Talent''. Between 2017 and 2020, he was a professional dancer on the Irish version of '' Dancing with the Stars,'' and in 2021, he became a professional dancer on the BBC show '' Strictly Come Dancing''. Brian Dowling (presenter)
Brian Patrick Robert Dowling (born 13 June 1978) is an Irish television presenter. He rose to fame after winning the second series of reality series '' Big Brother'', and went on to win ''Ultimate Big Brother'' in 2010. In 2007, he came third in ''Hell's Kitchen'' and in 2008, he was runner-up in the Irish reality television series '' Fáilte Towers''. Dowling then guest-presented ''Live from Studio Five'' alongside Kate Walsh from 2010 until its cancellation in February 2011. On 22 July 2011, it was confirmed that Dowling would become the new host of ''Big Brother'' upon its transfer to Channel 5, replacing Davina McCall. ''Dancing with the Stars'' is an Irish reality television series, airing on RTÉ One that started on 8 January 2017, and is currently hosted by Jennifer Zamparelli and Doireann Garrihy. The show is based on the original UK version, ''Strictly Come Dancing'' and is part of the ''Dancing with the Stars'' franchise. The judging panel consists of Arthur Gourounlian, Loraine Barry and Brian Redmond. and formerly Julian Benson from seasons 1–4.
