The Men's sprint competition at the 2020 UCI Track Cycling World Championships was held on 29 February and 1 March 2020. Results Qualifying The qualifying was started on 29 February at 11:25. The top four riders advanced directly to the 1/8 finals; places 5 to 28 advanced to the 1/16 finals. 1/16 finals The 1/16 finals were started on 29 February at 12.35. Velodrom (Berlin)
The Velodrom (velodrome) is an indoor track cycling arena, in the Prenzlauer Berg locality of Berlin, Germany. Holding up to 12,000 people, it was also Berlin's largest concert venue, until the opening of O2 World (Berlin), O2 World in 2008. It is part of a larger complex, which includes a swimming pool as well, built in the course of the unsuccessful Berlin application for the 2000 Summer Olympics. This project is related to the German reunification and the wish of a city, Berlin, about to become the capital, to be nominated for the Olympic Games. It replaced the former Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle, which was demolished in 1993. It mainly hosts indoor sporting events, trade shows and concerts. Ethan Mitchell (born 19 February 1991) is a former New Zealand track cyclist. He is a multiple-time World Champion, an Olympic medallist, and Commonwealth Champion. Career Mitchell has had a successful career in track sprinting after specialising in the 'standing lap' role of first position in the team sprint. A former junior World Champion, Mitchell burst on to the senior scene as a starter at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, winning a silver medal. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the men's team sprint for the national team. Zhou Yu (cyclist)
Zhou Yu (, ) (175–210), courtesy name Gongjin (), was a Chinese military general and strategist serving under the warlord Sun Ce in the late Eastern Han dynasty of China. After Sun Ce died in the year 200, he continued serving under Sun Quan, Sun Ce's younger brother and successor. Zhou Yu is primarily known for his leading role in defeating the numerically superior forces of the northern warlord Cao Cao at the Battle of Red Cliffs in late 208, and again at the Battle of Jiangling in 209. Zhou Yu's victories served as the bedrock of Sun Quan's regime, which in 222 became Eastern Wu, one of the Three Kingdoms. Zhou Yu did not live to see Sun Quan's enthronement, however, as he died at the age of 35 in 210 while preparing to invade Yi Province (modern Sichuan and Chongqing). Jack Carlin (born 23 April 1997) is a Scottish track cyclist, who competes in sprinting events and won two medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Cycling career In 2016, Carlin won his first senior international medal when taking silver at the European Track Championships in the team sprint. In 2018 he won silver medals at the World Championships in both the sprint and team sprint.
