2020 Orlando City SC Season
The 2020 Orlando City SC season was the club's 10th season of existence in Orlando and sixth season as a Major League Soccer franchise, the top-flight league in the United States soccer league system. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Open Cup was canceled. Season review Pre-season On October 7, 2019, one day after the final game of the 2019 season, Orlando City parted ways with head coach James O'Connor. With the addition of Nashville SC and Inter Miami CF in 2020, MLS held an Expansion Draft on November 19, 2019. Orlando City had 13 players exposed. None were taken. On November 21, 2019, it was announced that a total of 14 players would not return either because their contract had expired, they had their contract option declined or, in the case of Danilo Acosta, they returned to their parent club after their loan expired. Orlando City SC is an American professional soccer club in Orlando, Florida, that competes as a member of the Eastern Conference in Major League Soccer (MLS). Orlando City SC began play in 2015 as the 21st franchise in MLS, succeeding the USL Pro team of the same name. Nashville Soccer Club is a Major League Soccer team based in Nashville, Tennessee. The team began play in the league in 2020 as a continuation of the USL club of the same name and plays its home matches at Geodis Park. It is principally owned by John Ingram, owner of Ingram Industries, along with investors and partial owners the Turner family of Dollar General Stores. NC State v Clemson match in 2006 The NC State Wolfpack men's soccer team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States. The team is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. NC State's first men's soccer team was fielded in 1950. David Loera
David Loera (born September 10, 1998) is a professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for USL League One side Lexington SC. Born in Spain, he has represented the United States at youth level. Career Early career As a youth, Loera played with the Orlando City Development Academy team. In July 2016, Loera made his Orlando City B debut in USL, coming on as a 54th minute substitute against Louisville City, the first player to appear for Orlando's USL affiliate while still in the academy. Homegrown Player Rule (Major League Soccer)
The Homegrown Player Rule is a Major League Soccer program that allows MLS teams to sign local players from their own development academies directly to MLS first team rosters. Before the creation of the rule in 2008, every player entering Major League Soccer would have to be assigned through one of the existing MLS player allocation processes, such as the MLS SuperDraft. MLS roster rules allow a team to sign players to contracts similar to Generation adidas contracts, which do not count against the MLS salary budget and may earn a much higher salary than the league minimum. MLS has since removed this wording from the roster rules. That means homegrown players will not count against the salary budget only if they are registered using supplemental roster slots, but will still count against the salary budget if they are registered using senior roster slots. Mason James Stajduhar (born December 2, 1997) is an American soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for MLS team Orlando City. Career Orlando City On November 9, 2015, Orlando City announced the signing of Stajduhar to a Homegrown contract. He became the club's fourth homegrown player. Alexander Ray DeJohn (born May 10, 1991) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defender. Born in Marlboro, New Jersey, DeJohn played college soccer for the Old Dominion Monarchs before being drafted in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft by the New England Revolution as the 42nd pick (80th overall). Oriol "Uri" Rosell Argerich (; born 7 July 1992) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder. Background On November 19, 2013, it was announced that Orlando City would be the next expansion franchise in Major League Soccer, the league's 21st team. The dissolution of C.D. Chivas USA following the 2014 MLS season resulted in Orlando City instead being the league's 20th franchise. Following the completion of City's final season in USL Pro, the team released all but nine players from its roster. Cristian Higuita (born 12 January 1994) is a Colombian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Atlético Junior in Categoría Primera A. Ruan Gregório Teixeira (born 29 May 1995), known simply as Ruan, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a right back for MLS club D.C. United.
