East Luwu Regent, Irman Yasin Limpo
East or Orient is one of the four cardinal directions or points of the compass. It is the opposite direction from west and is the direction from which the Sun rises on the Earth. Etymology As in other languages, the word is formed from the fact that east is the direction where the Sun rises: ''east'' comes from Middle English ''est'', from Old English ''ēast'', which itself comes from the Proto-Germanic *''aus-to-'' or *''austra-'' "east, toward the sunrise", from Proto-Indo-European *aus- "to shine," or "dawn", cognate with Old High German ''*ōstar'' "to the east", Latin ''aurora'' 'dawn', and Greek ''ēōs'' 'dawn, east'. Examples of the same formation in other languages include Latin oriens 'east, sunrise' from orior 'to rise, to originate', Greek ανατολή anatolé 'east' from ἀνατέλλω 'to rise' and Hebrew מִזְרָח mizraḥ 'east' from זָרַח zaraḥ 'to rise, to shine'. ''Ēostre'', a Germanic goddess of dawn, might have been a personification ...

2020 Indonesian Local Elections
Local elections (Indonesian: ''Pemilihan Kepala Daerah'' or ''Pilkada'') were held in Indonesia on 9 December 2020. Voters elected nine governors, 224 regents, and 37 mayors across the country. All the elections were held on the same day, and over 100 million people were expected to be eligible to vote. Schedule KPU released a schedule for the election in June 2019. Registration for the candidates would be held between 28 and 30 April 2020, with a campaign period lasting between June and September. 2018 Makassar Mayoral Election
The 2018 Makassar mayoral election took place on 27 June 2018 as part of the simultaneous local elections. It was held to elect the mayor of Makassar and the deputy mayor. Munafri Arifuddin, who was supported by 10 from 11 political parties in the city's Regional People's Representative Council, was the only candidate in an uncontested election. Incumbent mayor Mohammad Ramdhan Pomanto initially registered to run for a second term as an independent candidate, but his candidacy was later revoked by a Supreme Court ruling. Despite running as a single candidate, Arifuddin, who was the CEO of local football club PSM Makassar and nephew of then-Indonesian vice president Jusuf Kalla, lost the vote to an empty ballot (''kotak kosong''), forcing the election to be repeated in 2020 and for an acting mayor to be appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Although a lawsuit was brought to the Constitutional Court, the appeal was rejected, making the election the first in Indonesian electo ...

Uncontested Election
An uncontested election is an election in which the number of candidates is the same as or fewer than the number of places available for election, so that all candidates are guaranteed to be elected. An uncontested single-winner election is one where there is only one candidate. In some uncontested elections, the normal process, of voters casting ballots and election official counting votes, is cancelled as superfluous and costly; in other cases the election proceeds as a formality. There are some election systems where absence of opposing candidates may not guarantee victory; possible factors are a quorum or minimum voter turnout; a none of the above option; or the availability of write-in candidates on the ballot. Preventing automatic election Running without opponents is not always a guarantee of winning. Many elections require that the winner has not only the most votes of all candidates, but also either a minimum number of votes or minimum fraction of votes cast, which may ...

None Of The Above
"None of the above" (NOTA), or none for short, also known as "against all" or a "scratch" vote, is a ballot option in some jurisdictions or organizations, designed to allow the voter to indicate disapproval of the candidates in a voting system. It is based on the principle that consent requires the ability to withhold consent in an election, just as they can by voting "No" on ballot questions. It must be contrasted with " abstention", in which a voter does not cast a ballot. Entities that include "None of the Above" on ballots as standard procedure include India ("None of the above"), Indonesia (, "empty box"), Greece (, white), the U.S. state of Nevada (None of These Candidates), Ukraine (, "against all"), Belarus, Spain (, "white vote"), North Korea, and Colombia (). Russia had such an option on its ballots (, "against all") until it was abolished in 2006. Bangladesh introduced this option (, "no vote") in 2008. Pakistan introduced this option on ballot papers for the 2013 P ...
