2020 Belarusian Premier League
The 2020 Belarusian Premier League was the 30th season of top-tier football in Belarus. Dynamo Brest were the defending champions, having won their first league title last year. Shakhtyor Soligorsk became champions on the last play date by beating FC Minsk 4–2. Meanwhile, BATE Borisov didn't win and drew 0–0 at Dinamo Minsk so Shaktyor Soligorsk finished 1 point above BATE in the table and will play in the 2021–22 UEFA Champions League. By late March 2020, it was the only European top-flight league being contested, as all others were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic; games were played with crowds. As a result, this led to substantially increased viewership from all over the world, due to sporting inactivity elsewhere. Belarusian Premier League
The Belarusian Premier League or the Vyšejšaja Liha or the Vysheyshaya Liga ( be, Вышэйшая ліга, russian: Высшая лига, "Top League") is the top division of professional football in Belarus, and is organized by the Belarusian Football Federation. The number of teams in the competition has varied over the years from as high as 17 (1992–93 season) to as low as 11 (2012). As of 2016, the league included 16 teams. Each team plays every other team twice during the course of the season. At the end of the season, the two teams with the fewest points are automatically relegated to the Belarusian First League, while the third worst team plays a promotion-relegation playoff against the third best team from the second tier. The top two teams from the Belarusian First League automatically win promotion to the Premier League. 2019 Belarusian First League
2019 Belarusian First League is the 29th season of 2nd level football in Belarus. It started in April and ended in November 2019. Team changes from 2018 season Two best teams of 2018 Belarusian First League ( Slavia Mozyr and Energetik-BGU Minsk) were promoted to Belarusian Premier League. They were replaced by two lowest placed teams of 2018 Belarusian Premier League table (Smolevichi and Dnepr Mogilev). Last placed team of the last season (Chist) relegated to the Second League. They were replaced by two best teams of 2018 Second League ( Rukh Brest and Krumkachy Minsk), and the league was expanded to 16 teams. Krumkachy Minsk were renamed to NFK Minsk during the winter break. FC Torpedo Minsk ( be, ПФК Тарпеда Мінск, ''PFK Tarpeda Minsk''; russian: link=no, ПФК Торпедо Минск) is a Belarusian football club, playing in Minsk. The team plays their home games at the Torpedo Stadium in Minsk, which holds 4,800 people. They currently play in Belarusian Second League. History During Soviet years, Torpedo was playing in the Belarusian SSR top league and won championships in 1947, 1962, 1966, 1967 and 1969. The team was playing in the Belarusian Premier League since 1992. FC Gomel ( be, ФК Гомель), or FK Homiel, is a Belarusian football club, playing in the city of Gomel. Their home stadium is Central Stadium. History Teams from Gomel (usually city or raion selection or railway-based team ''Lokomotiv'', but not always) played in the Belarusian SSR championships since the early 1920s. In 1946, Belorusian SSR league for one season becomes one of the zones of the USSR 3rd level league, and ''Lokomotiv Gomel'' became the first city team to play in the Soviet league. FC Isloch Minsk Raion ( be, ФК Іслач, ''FK Islach''; russian: ФК Ислочь, link=no) is a Belarusian football club based in Minsk, although it officially represents Minsk Raion and is named after the Islach River.
