2020 Australia Day Honours
The 2020 Australia Day Honours are appointments to various orders and honours to recognise and reward good works by Australian citizens. The list was announced on 26 January 2020 by the Governor General of Australia, David Hurley. The Australia Day Honours are the first of the two major annual honours lists, the first announced to coincide with Australia Day (26 January), with the other being the Queen's Birthday Honours, which are announced on the second Monday in June. Australian Honours System
The Australian honours and awards system refers to all Order (distinction), orders, decorations, and medals, as instituted by letters patent from the Monarchy of Australia, Monarch of Australia and countersigned by the Australian prime minister at the time, that have been progressively introduced since 14 February 1975. The Australian honours and awards system excludes all state and local government, and private, issued awards and medals (although a few can be recognised in the Australian Honours Order of Wearing, order of wearing, like those in the Order of Saint John (chartered 1888), Order of St John). Honours and awards have been present in Australia since pre-Federation of Australia, Federation, primarily from the Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom, Imperial honours and awards system. Rachelle Buchbinder
Rachelle Buchbinder (born 1958) is an Australian rheumatologist and clinical epidemiologist. Her clinical practice is in conjunction with research involving multidisciplinary projects relating to arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions. She promotes improvement of communication with patients and health literacy in the community. Education Buchbinder holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, (MBBS) (Hons) from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. She earned a Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Epidemiology from Toronto University, Canada in 1993. Her thesis topic was "The classification of soft tissue disorders of the neck and upper limb for epidemiological research." Matthew Sanders (parenting Researcher)
Matthew Roy Sanders is a parenting researcher and professor at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In 2018, he was named as one of the Queensland Greats by Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk in a ceremony at the Queensland Art Gallery on 8 June 2018. Alison Ritter
Alison Joan Ritter is an Australian academic whose research focuses on illicit drug use and policy. As of 2021 she is a full professor and director of the Drug Policy Modelling Program at the University of New South Wales. Career Ritter graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1988 with a Master of Arts. Her thesis was titled "Coping and relapse in opiate users". She subsequently was awarded a PhD by the same university in 1998 for her thesis, "The influence of neuropsychological status on response to treatment for alcohol dependence: Coping skills, clinician ratings, self-efficacy and therapist characteristics". John Reginald Piggott is an Australian economist. He is the Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR) at the University of New South Wales, Australia, where he is Scientia Professor of Economics. Barry O'Farrell

Campbell Kevin Thomas Newman (born 12 August 1963) is a former Australian politician who served as the 38th Premier of Queensland from 26 March 2012 to 14 February 2015. Fiona McLeod (barrister)
Fiona Margaret McLeod (born 1964) is an Australian barrister practising at the Victorian Bar. Early life and education McLeod's father was a psychiatrist, who presided over the department at the University of Auckland for seven years, until McLeod was 13 years old. Her mother was a biochemist, later a ceramic artist. McLeod attended the Melbourne Law School at the University of Melbourne, where she enjoyed participating in student theatre productions. Ian Healy
Ian Andrew Healy (born 30 April 1964) is an Australian former international cricketer who played for Queensland domestically. A specialist wicketkeeper and useful right-hand middle-order batsman, he made an unheralded entry to international cricket in 1988, after only six first-class games. His work ethic and combativeness was much needed by an Australian team. Over the next decade, Healy was a key member of the side as it enjoyed a sustained period of success. Donald Morrison Grant is a professional surveyor and the former Surveyor-General of New South Wales. Early life Grant was born in Bairnsdale, Victoria in 1934.
