2020 ATP Finals – Singles
Daniil Medvedev defeated Dominic Thiem in the final, 4–6, 7–6(7–2), 6–4 to win the singles tennis title at the 2020 ATP Finals. Medvedev became the fourth man to defeat the world's top-three ranked players en route to a title (after David Nalbandian, Novak Djokovic and Boris Becker). Stefanos Tsitsipas was the defending champion, but was eliminated in the round-robin stage. This marked the first time since 2009 that the defending champion was eliminated in the round-robin stage. Novak Djokovic was attempting to equal Roger Federer's record of six Tour Finals titles, but was defeated by Thiem in the semifinals. His loss guaranteed a maiden ATP Finals titlist for the fifth consecutive year. Daniil Sergeyevich Medvedev (russian: Даниил Сергеевич Медведев; born 11 February 1996) is a Russian professional tennis player. He is currently ranked world No. 7 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), and was ranked as the singles world No. 1 for 16 total weeks. Medvedev has won 15 ATP Tour singles titles, including the 2021 US Open and 2020 ATP Finals. In the former, Medvedev defeated then-world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the final to deny him the Grand Slam. 1970 Pepsi-Cola Masters
The 1970 Pepsi-Cola Masters was a tennis tournament played on indoor carpet courts at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan. It was the first edition of the year-end Masters Grand Prix and was held from December 9 through December 15, 1970. The event included a singles and doubles draw, both of which were held in a round robin format. Stan Smith won the first singles title and then partnered Arthur Ashe to the doubles title as well. The best six players from the 1970 Grand Prix circuit ranking qualified for the singles event. Cliff Richey, the winner of the Grand Prix ranking, could not participate due to illness. John Newcombe was the first replacement as the number seven ranked but was unable to play which meant that Jan Kodeš, ranked eight, completed the field. Denis Viktorovich Shapovalov (born 15 April 1999) is a Canadian professional tennis player. He has been ranked as high as world No. 10 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) which he first achieved in September 2020.
