2019–20 2. Bundesliga
The 2019–20 2. Bundesliga was the 46th season of the 2. Bundesliga. It began on 26 July 2019 and was initially due to conclude on 17 May 2020. Arminia Bielefeld secured their promotion on 16 June 2020, while VfB Stuttgart were promoted on the last matchday. Following an offline test phase in the previous season, the video assistant referee system will be used for the first time in the 2. Bundesliga. Also, the number of substitutes allowed on the bench was increased from seven to nine for the 2019–20 season. On 13 March 2020, the Deutsche Fußball Liga, DFL suspended the 2019–20 Bundesliga, Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany. Video Assistant Referee
The video assistant referee (VAR) is a match official in association football who reviews decisions made by the referee. The assistant video assistant referee (AVAR) is a current or former referee appointed to assist the VAR in the video operation room. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals " away from home" wins. This is sometimes expressed by saying that away goals "count double" in the event of a tie, though in practice the team with more away goals is simply recorded as the victor, rather than having additional or 'double' goals added to their total. The term "behind closed doors" is used in several sports, to describe matches played where spectators are not allowed in the stadium to watch.
