2019 World Para Swimming Championships
The 2019 World Para Swimming Championships is the 2019 edition of the World Para Swimming Championships run by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The championships were held from February to June in seven countries across five continents and served as a qualifying event for Paralympic swimming at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. The event was sponsored by Allianz. In 2017, the IPC announced that the event would be hosted in Kuching, Malaysia. However, on 27 January 2019, Malaysia were stripped of their hosting rights because their government refused to allow Israeli athletes into the country to compete. On 15 April 2019, London, United Kingdom was announced as the new host for the championships, now rescheduled to take place from 9 - 15 September. Alexander "Alec" Robert Elliot (born July 5, 1996) is a Canadian competitive Paralympic swimmer. Early life Elliot began swimming at the age of seven years old with the Region of Waterloo Swim Club. After swimming for a year, he took three years off and pursued his interest in minor soccer. At the age of 12, he decided to return to competitive swimming. Elliot was born with a congenital hand and foot impairment, called Syndactyly, which qualified him for a Para-swimming classification of S10, SB9 and SM10 disability classifications from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). With this international classification, obtained in 2014, he could compete for the Canadian National Para-Swim Team. Maksym Serhiyovich Krypak ( uk, Максим Сергійович Крипак, born 23 May 1995 in Kharkiv) is a Paralympic swimmer from Ukraine who competes in S10 and SM10 (individual medley) events. He won five gold and three silver medals at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, setting new world records in the 100 m backstroke and 400 m freestyle. Krypak won seven medals at the 2020 Paralympic Games and became the most titled athlete of these games. Brenden Hall, (born 27 May 1993) is an Australian Paralympic swimmer who won two gold medals at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics where he won one gold, one silver and one bronze medal. He competed at 2020 Summer Paralympics, his fourth games. Personal Hall was born on 27 May 1993 in the Queensland town of Nambour. At the age of six, he had his right leg amputated after complications from chicken pox. The disease also resulted in the loss of 70% of his hearing. Initially he was reliant on a wheelchair but in the mid-2000s he was fitted with a prosthetic leg.
