2019 Women's Oceania Cup
The 2019 Women's Oceania Cup was the eleventh edition of the women's field hockey tournament. It was held from 5 to 8 September in Rockhampton. The tournament served as a qualifier for the 2020 Summer Olympics. New Zealand won the tournament for the fourth time, finishing ahead of Australia on goal difference. Background Australia were three-time back-to-back defending champions. The winners of the Cup earned an automatic place at the 2020 Olympic Games. The hosting announcement of the Rockhampton Hockey Association came as $5 million was being invested into the hockey centre to upgrade the facilities. In March 2019, Stirling Hinchliffe, MLA for Sandgate and Minister for Local Government, Racing and Multicultural Affairs announced that the Government of Queensland had invested $2.5 million into the Kalka Shades, the home of the Rockhampton Hockey Association. Rockhampton
Rockhampton is a city in the Rockhampton Region of Central Queensland, Australia. Sophie Taylor (born 12 September 1995) is an Australian field hockey player. Personal life Taylor was born in Camberwell, Victoria, and plays representative hockey for the Victorian Vipers. Career Junior national team Taylor made her debut for the junior national team at the 2016 Junior Oceania Cup, helping the team to qualification for the Junior World Cup. Jane Claxton
Jane Claxton (born 26 October 1992) is an Australian field hockey player for Australia. Claxton was a member of the Australia women's national field hockey team that were defeated by the Netherlands women's national field hockey team in the final of the 2014 Women's Hockey World Cup, a Gold Medal winner at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and member of the team that went to the 2016 Summer Olympics. She was also named captain of the Hockeyroos in November 2016 for the Tans-Tasman Trophy against New Zealand. Georgina Morgan (born 15 May 1993) is an Australian field hockey player. She represented her country at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Early life Morgan was born in Armidale, New South Wales. She began playing hockey when she was six years old. Education Morgan is currently studying at the University of Sydney, completing a Bachelor of Applied Science, majoring in Exercise Physiology. Kaitlin Nobbs
Kaitlin Nobbs (born 24 September 1997) is an Australian field hockey player. She has played for the Australian national team, the Hockeyroos. Early life Nobbs is the daughter of Australian field hockey players Michael Nobbs and Lee Capes. Her father played in the 1984 Summer Olympics and coached the Indian men's team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, while her mother won the gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Edwina Claire Bone (born 29 April 1988) is an Australian field hockey player. Her regular position is as a defender. Bone was a member of the Australia women's national field hockey team that were runners-up at the 2014 Women's Hockey World Cup. She was a member of the Australian team that defeated England in the women's field hockey final at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Madison Fitzpatrick (born 14 December 1996) is an Australian field hockey player. Fitzpatrick was born in Wollongong, and made her senior international debut in a test series against Korea in September 2015. Fitzpatrick was part of the Australian women's junior national team 'The Jillaroos' that won bronze at the 2016 Hockey Junior World Cup in Chile, as well as the Jillaroos team at the 2013 Hockey Junior World Cup. Goalkeeper (field Hockey)
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. Ashlee Wells (born 1 August 1989) is a retired Australian field hockey player who plays as a goalkeeper.
