2019 W Series Zolder Round
The 2019 W Series Zolder round (also commercially referred to as #WRace2) was the second round of the 2019 W Series, and took place at Circuit Zolder in Belgium on 18 May 2019. The event was an undercard to the 2019 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters round at the same circuit. Briton Jamie Chadwick took pole position but the race was won by Dutch driver Beitske Visser, who took an early lead and was able to hold on to it despite two safety car periods. Chadwick finished in second place, despite a late race charge by Alice Powell, who claimed the final podium place in third. 2019 W Series
The 2019 W Series was the inaugural motor racing season of the W Series, an all-female Formula 3-level racing series. Driver selection 55 drivers were initially entered in a qualifying longlist for the 2019 season, with a further six added later on. An evaluation was held at the Wachauring in Melk, Austria over 26–28 January, with series judges—including David Coulthard, Alexander Wurz and Lyn St. James— selecting a shortlist of drivers that would get to test the Tatuus–Alfa Romeo T-318. Drivers completed 10 'modules' that tested their skills in racecraft, fitness, media training and sponsorship pitches, before a final knockout series of races that would decide the 28 drivers that advanced to the next stage at the in Almería, Spain. Vittoria "Vicky" Piria (born 11 November 1993 in Milan) is an Italian-British racing driver who currently races in Formula Renault Eurocup and W Series. Career Karting Piria grew up in Perugia in Umbria, she began karting in 2003 and raced primarily in her native Italy for the majority of this part of her career, working her way up from the junior ranks to progress through to the KF3 category by 2008. Sarah Moore (racing Driver)
Sarah Moore (born 22 October 1993) is a British racing driver. She won the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2009 and competed in the InterSteps Championship in 2011. She was awarded the Rising Star status by the British Racing Drivers' Club in 2009. Moore was the first female racing driver to win a TOCA-sanctioned race, and the first to win a junior mixed-gender, national-level series in the UK. She is the first female to have won the Britcar Endurance Championship. Caitlin Wood (born 15 January 1997 in Maitland, New South Wales) is an Australian female racing driver who last competed in the 2021 W Series. Biography Hailing from Tenambit in the New South Wales Hunter Valley, Wood began her professional motorsport career in 2013 in a state-level Formula Ford championship. She ended her debut in car racing 5th out of 7 in the championship. She subsequently moved up to the inaugural Australian Formula Ford Championship in 2015, however she struggled to 21st in the championship with only three points finishes. Sabré Cook (born May 21, 1994 in Grand Junction, Colorado) is an American female racing driver and mechanical engineer. She has previously competed in the W Series. Biography Cook started her professional motorsport career with an invitation into the 2017 SCCA National Championship Runoffs event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, finishing ninth in the Formula Enterprise class. She would step up to American entry level formula in 2018, running partial campaigns in both U.S.F2000 and Formula 4. Her best results would be a 14th in USF2000 (at Indianapolis) and a 15th in USF4 (at the Circuit of the Americas), however she would only be classified in the former championship standings as points are only awarded to the top 10 in F4. Esmee Anna Hawkey (born 2 March 1998 in Chislehurst) is a British racing driver who currently competes in Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, driving a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo for T3 Motorsport. Biography Inspired by her father, Hawkey began racing karts at the age of ten. She had previously attended ballet and tap dancing classes, but chose to leave both in order to pursue a career in motorsport. Hawkey moved up to the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2014. Fabienne Wohlwend (born 7 November 1997 in Vaduz) is a female racing driver from Liechtenstein who competes in the W Series. Biography Formula 4 Wohlwend entered car racing in 2016, having been successful in junior karting in Liechtenstein and Switzerland. She debuted in the Italian F4 Championship with Aragón Racing, before a mid-season switch to DR Formula. She failed to qualify for the final at the first round in Misano (the series ran a unique format for said round after 41 cars entered a circuit with a capacity of 36) and, after the qualifying race system was abandoned, did not score any points during the course of the season - her best finish being an 11th place in the final race of the season at Monza. The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) is a touring car racing series based in Scandinavia. Megan Gilkes (born 6 November 2000 in Richmond Hill, Ontario) is a Canadian former racing driver who last competed in F1 Academy. She previously competed in the now defunct W Series in 2019. Biography A third-generation racer, Gilkes began karting aged nine in her then-home of Barbados.
