2019 US Open – Women's Singles
Bianca Andreescu defeated Serena Williams in the final, 6–3, 7–5 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2019 US Open. It was her first major title, and she became the first Canadian, as well as the first player born in the 2000s, to win a major singles title. In addition, she was the youngest person since Svetlana Kuznetsova in 2004 to win a major singles title, and the first woman to win the US Open on her main draw debut. With the win, Andreescu entered the top 5 in rankings for the first time. Naomi Osaka was the defending champion, but lost to Belinda Bencic in the fourth round. Bianca Vanessa Andreescu (; born June 16, 2000) is a Canadian professional tennis player. She has a career-high ranking of No. 4 in the world, and is the highest-ranked Canadian in the history of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). Andreescu was the champion at the 2019 US Open – Women's singles, US Open and the 2019 Rogers Cup, Canadian Open in 2019, defeating Serena Williams to win both titles.
