2019 US Open – Women's Doubles
Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ashleigh Barty and Victoria Azarenka in the final, 7–5, 7–5, to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2019 US Open. Barbora Strýcová retained the WTA no. 1 doubles ranking after the tournament. Kristina Mladenovic was also in contention for the top ranking at the start of the tournament. Barty and CoCo Vandeweghe were the defending champions, but chose not to participate together. Barty played alongside Azarenka and lost in the final. Vandeweghe teamed up with Bethanie Mattek-Sands, but lost in the first round to Magda Linette and Iga Świątek. Elise Mertens
Elise Mertens (; born 17 November 1995) is a Belgian professional tennis player. She is a former world No. 1 in doubles. Mertens is a three-time Grand Slam champion in doubles, having won the 2019 US Open and 2021 Australian Open partnering Aryna Sabalenka, and the 2021 Wimbledon Championships with Hsieh Su-wei. Mertens also finished runner-up at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships with Zhang Shuai. Demi Schuurs (born 1 August 1993) is a professional Dutch tennis player who has specialized in doubles.
