2019 San Juan Local Elections
Local elections was held in San Juan, Metro Manila on May 13, 2019 within the Philippine general election. The voters elected for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, the congressman, and the councilors, six of them in the two districts of the city. Former Vice Mayor Francis Zamora led the mayoral race with 35,000 votes defeating incumbent Vice Mayor Janella Ejercito, granddaughter of former President and incumbent Mayor of Manila Joseph Estrada, who garnered 24,813 votes. Zamora's victory marked the conclusion of the reign of the Ejercito Estradas in the city who ruled the city for 50 years. Background Incumbent Guia Gomez is now on her third and final term as Mayor of San Juan. Katipunan ng Demokratikong Pilipino (KDP) is a Philippine neo-nationalist political party founded in 2018. Don Carlos Armand Crisostomo Allado (born June 10, 1977) is a Filipino basketball coach, former professional player, and politician. A power forward, he played college basketball for the De La Salle Green Archers, where he won back-to-back UAAP championships, most valuable player (MVP) awards, and Finals MVP awards in 1998 and 1999. In the 1999 draft of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), he was selected as the eighth overall pick by Alaska with whom he won two PBA championships: the 2000 All-Filipino Cup and the 2003 Invitational Championship. Paul Anthony Dy Artadi (born May 5, 1981) is a Filipino politician, basketball coach, and former professional player. On his eleven-year career in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), he played the point guard position and was a three-time PBA All-Star. 2010 Philippine Bar Exam Bombing
The 2010 Philippine Bar exam bombing occurred on Taft Avenue near De La Salle University (DLSU), located in Malate, Manila, Philippines, on September 26, 2010, at 5:05 pm PST, a few minutes after Philippine Bar examinees began exiting DLSU. A Mk2 grenade was thrown at a group of Alpha Phi Beta members from San Beda College. They were standing near Tau Gamma Phi members, who police believed were the real target of the explosive. This resulted in injuries to 47 people, including two who required amputations.
