The 2019 Paraguayan Primera División, División Profesional season (officially the Copa de Primera TIGO-Visión Banco 2019 for sponsorship reasons) was the 85th season of top-flight professional football in Paraguay. The season began on 22 January and ended on 15 December. The fixtures for the season were announced on 13 December 2018. Club Olimpia, Olimpia were the defending champions after winning both tournaments of the 2018 Paraguayan Primera División season, 2018 season, and won a third championship in a row in the Torneo Apertura with three matches to spare after defeating Deportivo Santaní by a 6–0 score on 4 May. Olimpia also crowned themselves in the Torneo Clausura, winning a fourth title in a row with one matchday remaining, following a 2–2 draw at home against Club Guaraní, Guaraní on 8 December. The División Profesional de la Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol (; "Professional Division of the Paraguayan Football Association"), also known as the Primera División (; "first division"), or due to sponsorship reasons Copa de Primera TIGO-Visión Banco, is the top-flight professional football league in Paraguay. Currently, there are 12 teams in the first division. The most successful club is Olimpia, with 46 championships. The most recent champions are Olimpia, having won the 2022 Clausura tournament. IFFHS ranked the league as the ninth strongest in the world in 2012, and the eleventh strongest in the world in 2013. The season began on 2 February and ended on 8 December. Cerro Porteño were the defending champions. In the Torneo Apertura, Olimpia won their forty-first league title with two matches to spare following a 2–1 win over Libertad on 30 May. Olimpia also clinched their forty-second league title in the Torneo Clausura with two matches to spare after beating Guaraní 4–1 on 28 November. Estadio General Pablo Rojas (locally known as La Olla or La Nueva Olla) is a football stadium in the neighbourhood of Barrio Obrero in Asunción, Paraguay. It is the home venue of Cerro Porteño. The stadium's nickname ''La Olla'' was given by the club's former president General Pablo Rojas, whose name took the stadium when he died. Víctor Eduardo Ceferino Bernay (; born 4 April 1970) is an Argentine football coach, currently the manager of Paraguayan club Nacional Asunción. Career Born in Concordia, Entre Ríos, Bernay played youth football for Club Atlético Victoria de Concordia as a youth, making his senior debut at the age of 16 while being the club's fitness coach. He later studied accounting before moving to physical education. He also had a short spell at Newell's Old Boys' youth setup, but had to leave due to military service. Bernay began his managerial career at CA Ferrocarril de Concordia before moving to Atlético Uruguay. He left the latter club on 30 December 2005, to join Pedro Troglio's staff at Gimnasia La Plata. The División Intermedia ( en, Intermediate Division), also known as the Segunda División ( en, Second Division), is the second tier professional football league in Paraguay. It is organized by the Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol. Overview Since 1910 the second division tournaments have changed rules, number of teams and names.
