2019 Moldovan Referendum
A non-binding two-part referendum was held in Moldova on 24 February 2019, alongside parliamentary elections. Voters were asked two questions; whether the number of MPs should be reduced from 101 to 61 and whether MPs should be open to recall. Both proposals were approved by voters, with voter turnout above the 33% threshold required to validate the result. Moldova ( , ; ), officially the Republic of Moldova ( ro, Republica Moldova), is a Landlocked country, landlocked country in Eastern Europe. It is bordered by Romania to the west and Ukraine to the north, east, and south. The List of states with limited recognition, unrecognised state of Transnistria lies across the Dniester river on the country's eastern border with Ukraine. Moldova's Capital city, capital and largest city is Chișinău. 2019 Moldovan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Moldova on 24 February 2019 in order to elect the 101 members of the Parliament of Moldova. The Constitution holds that elections are to be held no later than four years and three months from the date of inauguration of the previous legislature. The elections were held under a parallel voting system, replacing the closed-list proportional system used in Moldova at all previous parliamentary elections since the independence. The electoral campaign period began in November 2018 and continued up until the election day. Candidates from four parties were elected to the Parliament, more specifically the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), the NOW Platform DA and PAS, ACUM electoral alliance composed of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party, DA and the Party of Action and Solidarity, PAS, and the Șor Party. A recall election (also called a recall referendum, recall petition or representative recall) is a procedure by which, in certain polities, voters can remove an elected official from office through a referendum before that official's term of office has ended. Recalls, which are initiated when sufficient voters sign a petition, have a history dating back to the constitution in ancient Athenian democracy and feature in several current constitutions. The European Social Democratic Party ( ro, Partidul Social Democrat European, PSDE) is a centre-left, populist social-democratic political party in Moldova. Established in 1997, the party holds pro-European views, and is an associate member of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and a full member of the Socialist International. The Democracy at Home Party ( ro, Partidul Democrația Acasă) or Democracy at Home Political Party (; PPDA) is a populist political party in the Republic of Moldova. History The Democracy at Home Party was established on 31 July 2011, but it was officially registered on 2 September. It is the legal successor of the "Democracy at Home" Youth Movement ().
