2019 Mid And East Antrim District Council Election
Elections to Mid and East Antrim District Council, part of the Northern Ireland local elections on 2 May 2019, returned 40 members to the council using Single Transferable Vote. The Democratic Unionist Party were the largest party in both first-preference votes and seats. Election results Note: "Votes" are the first preference votes. 2019 Northern Ireland Local Elections
Local elections were held in Northern Ireland on Thursday 2 May 2019. The last elections were held in 2014. 819 candidates contested 462 seats across Northern Ireland's 11 local government districts. 1,305,384 people aged 18 and over were eligible to vote, and 52.7% of the electorate turned out. Electoral system Northern Ireland uses the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system to elect members of local councils and members of the Northern Ireland Assembly. Voters rank candidates in order of preference by marking 1, 2, 3, ''etc.'' to the names of candidates on a ballot paper and can rank as many or as few candidates as they like or just vote for one candidate. These were the second elections held on new boundaries, introduced in 2014. These were the first Northern Ireland elections at which people have been able to register to vote online. Danny Donnelly (politician)
Danny Donnelly is a Northern Irish politician who has been an Alliance Party Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for East Antrim since May 2022. Political career Early career (2011-2022) Donnelly began his political career as a candidate for the Green Party NI in the 2011 local elections for Larne Borough Council, before leaving the party to join Alliance. Donnelly later ran in the newly formed Mid and East Antrim Borough Council in the 2014 local elections as the Alliance candidate for the Braid constituency, but failed to be elected. Following this, he ran alongside Stewart Dickson in the 2016 and 2017 Northern Ireland Assembly elections, coming 9th and then 8th - but failing to be elected. He than ran again for Mid and East Antrim District Council in the May 2019 local election, this time as one of the two Alliance candidates for the Larne Lough constituency. Patricia O'Lynn (born 28 September 1989) is a Northern Irish academic, educator, and politician who was an Alliance Party Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from 2022 to 2023. She was elected as an MLA in the 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly election for North Antrim. Political career Early career In 2016, as part of the Washington-Ireland Program, O'Lynn worked as a congressional intern for U.S. Senator John McCain. O'Lynn ran as the Alliance Party candidate for North Antrim in the 2017 Northern Ireland Assembly election, but was unsuccessful.
