2019 Mediterranean Beach Games
The 2019 Mediterranean Beach Games (Greek language, Greek: Μεσογειακοί Παράκτιοι Αγώνες 2019) is the second edition of the Mediterranean Beach Games. It was held from 25 to 31 August 2019 in Patras, Greece. Host city selection The Greek city of Patras was elected as host city of the second edition of the Mediterranean Beach Games (2019) during the ordinary General Assembly of the ICMG which was held in 2017 at Tarragona, Spain. Sports Eleven sports will feature in these Games. Participating nations 26 member nations of the Comité international des Jeux méditerranéens, International Committee for the Mediterranean Games competed in the II Mediterranean Beach Games. To the countries that participated in 2015 there was an addition of two more: Portugal and Kosovo. 2023 Mediterranean Beach Games
The 2023 Mediterranean Beach Games (MBG) (Greek: Μεσογειακοί Παράκτιοι Αγώνες 2023) is the third edition of the Mediterranean Beach Games. It will be held from 9 to 16 September 2023 in Heraklion, Greece. The MBG are celebrated every four years bringing together the athletes of the Mediterranean Olympic Committees, members of the ICMG, from three continents: Africa, Asia and Europe. Patras Lighthouse
Patras Lighthouse ( ell, Φάρος της Πάτρας) is a lighthouse and landmark of the Greek city of Patras. It is situated on the seafront (at the beginning of Trion Navarchon street), opposite the temple of Saint Andrew. History The first wooden lighthouse of Patras was built in the dock of Agios Nikolaos in 1858 and was destroyed by a storm in 1865. The old stone lighthouse was built in 1878. It covered a surface of 4-5 square meters, while its height was 17 meters. It was demolished in 1972 in the period of the military junta during the port's modernization. In 1999 the coastal zone council decided to rebuild the lighthouse in a southern location near Saint Andrew's cathedral. The reconstructed Patras lighthouse does not have a maritime usage but is one of the city's symbols and main sights. Antonios Pepanos
Antonios Pepanos ( el, Αντώνιος Πέπανος, 1866 - 1918) was a Greek swimmer. He was a member of Gymnastiki Etaireia Patron, which merged with Panachaikos Gymnastikos Syllogos in 1923 to become Panachaiki Gymnastiki Enosi. He won the silver medal in the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. Before the Olympics, Pepanos was hesitating about taking part because he was already thirty years old and past his prime. Finally, even though he was suffering from a cold on the day of the event, he competed in the 500 metres freestyle. He finished second with a time of 9:57.6.
