2019 Madrid Challenge By La Vuelta
The fifth edition of the Madrid Challenge by La Vuelta, a women's cycling race held in Spain, will take place on 14 and 15 September 2019. Route and organization The race starts with and 9.3 km individual time trial in Boadilla del Monte, followed by a 98.6 km crit race in Madrid. Stage 2 will use the finishing circuit that will also be used for stage 21 of the 2019 Vuelta. The event was organised by ASO, which also organises the Vuelta a España. It was the 22nd race of the 2019 UCI Women's World Tour. The 2019 UCI Women's World Tour was a competition that included twenty-three road bicycle racing, road cycling events throughout the 2019 in women's road cycling, 2019 women's cycling season. It was the fourth edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2016. The competition began with the 2019 Strade Bianche Women, Strade Bianche on 9 March and concluded with the Tour of Guangxi on 22 October. After just missing out in 2018 UCI Women's World Tour, 2018, Marianne Vos () clinched her first UCI Women's World Tour title after a third-place finish in the final event of the season, the Tour of Guangxi. The Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) is part of the French media group Éditions Philippe Amaury. It organises the Tour de France and other cycling races, as well as golf, running, sailing and off-road motorsport events. Floortje Mackaij (born 18 October 1995) is a Dutch professional road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . After switching from speed skating to road cycling she became the 2013 junior Dutch National time trial Champion and won a silver medal in the junior time trial at the 2013 European Road Championships. Anna Plichta (born 10 February 1992) is a Polish former racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2016 and 2021 for five different teams. She rode at the UCI Road World Championships every year between 2014 and 2020, and also represented Poland at the 2015 European Games in the women's road race and women's time trial. The Vuelta a España (; en, Tour of Spain) is an annual multi-stage bicycle race primarily held in Spain, while also occasionally making passes through nearby countries. Inspired by the success of the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia, the race was first organised in 1935.
