2019 Grote Prijs Jef Scherens
The 2019 Grote Prijs Jef Scherens was the 53rd edition of the Grote Prijs Jef Scherens road cycling one day race in and around Leuven. It was held on 16 August 2018 as a 1.1 categorised race and was part of the 2018 UCI Europe Tour and the 2018 Belgian Road Cycling Cup. The race ended in a bunch sprint of roughly 50 riders, with Niccolò Bonifazio taking the victory ahead of Hugo Hofstetter. Timothy Dupont took third place, thereby managing to end on the podium for the third year running, after also becoming third in the 2018 Grote Prijs Jef Scherens and winning the 2017 edition. Defending champion Jasper Stuyven did not take part this year. Teams Twenty-three teams were invited to take part in the race. 2019 UCI Europe Tour
The 2019 UCI Europe Tour was the fifteenth season of the UCI Europe Tour. The 2019 season began on 31 January 2019 with the Vuelta a Mallorca, Trofeo Porreres, Felanitx, Ses Salines, Campos and ended on 20 October 2019. Throughout the season, points are awarded to the top finishers of stages within stage races and the final general classification standings of each of the stages races and one-day events. The quality and complexity of a race also determines how many points are awarded to the top finishers, the higher the UCI rating of a race, the more points are awarded. Jasper Stuyven (born 17 April 1992) is a Belgian professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Juniors Born in Leuven, Stuyven had a successful career as a junior rider. In 2009, at age 17, he won the UCI Junior World Road Race Championships. 2010 brought Stuyven more successes when he won one day races Paris-Roubaix Juniors and Remouchamps–Ferrières–Remouchamps. Early years He began his professional career at age 20 for ; he earned four victories with the team, including the Volta ao Alentejo. Niccolò Bonifazio (born 9 October 1993) is an Italian cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Early career Bonifazio was born in Cuneo. Bonifazio's professional career began in 2013 when he rode as a stagiaire for UCI WorldTeam . He joined the team the following year as a regular rider. In September 2014, Bonifazio took the biggest victory of his career so far by winning the Coppa Agostoni in a bunch sprint. In addition to this, he won a stage of the Tour of Japan and three stages and 2nd place of the Tour of Hainan. In 2015, he booked another victory, the Gran Premio di Lugano, also in a sprint.
