2019 Gent–Wevelgem (women's Race)
The eighth running of Gent–Wevelgem's women's race was held on Sunday 31 March 2019. It was the fifth event of the 2019 UCI Women's World Tour. The race started in Ypres and finished in Wevelgem, covering a distance of 136.9 km. 2019 UCI Women's World Tour
The 2019 UCI Women's World Tour was a competition that included twenty-three road bicycle racing, road cycling events throughout the 2019 in women's road cycling, 2019 women's cycling season. It was the fourth edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2016. The competition began with the 2019 Strade Bianche Women, Strade Bianche on 9 March and concluded with the Tour of Guangxi on 22 October. After just missing out in 2018 UCI Women's World Tour, 2018, Marianne Vos () clinched her first UCI Women's World Tour title after a third-place finish in the final event of the season, the Tour of Guangxi. Elisa Balsamo (cyclist)
Elisa Balsamo (born 27 February 1998) is an Italian road and track cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's World Team , and represents Italy at international competitions. After competing at the 2015 UCI Road World Championships in the women's junior road race she became junior world champion at the 2016 UCI Road World Championships in the junior's road race. She won the gold medal at the 2016 UEC European Track Championships in the team pursuit. Early life Balsamo was born in Cuneo in 1998. Her father was an amateur cyclist. Before taking up cycling, she had competed in a number of skiing disciplines, as well as biathlon and swimming. Amy Pieters (born 1 June 1991) is a Dutch professional road and track cyclist, who is contracted to ride for UCI Women's WorldTeam . She was a member of the Dutch team that finished sixth at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the team pursuit (together with Ellen van Dijk, Kirsten Wild and Vera Koedooder). On 23 December 2021, Pieters was placed in an induced coma and underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure on her brain caused by a fall that day during a training ride near Alicante with the Dutch national track team. After being repatriated to the Netherlands the following month, Pieters had regained consciousness in April but, due to the brain injury suffered, doctors were unsure of her "residual symptoms and remaining abilities".
