2019 GT World Challenge Europe
The 2019 GT World Challenge Europe (known for sponsorship reasons as the 2019 Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe) was the seventh season of the GT World Challenge Europe following on from the demise of the SRO Motorsports Group's FIA GT1 World Championship (an auto racing series for grand tourer cars), the first with the sponsorship of Blancpain. The season began on 4 May at Brands Hatch and ended on 8 September at the Hungaroring. It was the first season of the unification of GT3 sprint series across the globe under the World Challenge name. Calendar At the annual press conference during the 2018 24 Hours of Spa on 27 July, the Stéphane Ratel Organisation announced the first draft of the 2019 calendar. GT World Challenge Europe
GT World Challenge Europe (known as the Blancpain GT Series between 2014 and 2019) is a sports car racing series organised by SRO Motorsports Group. It features grand tourer racing cars modified from production road cars complying with the FIA's GT3 regulations. The series is divided into two separate championships, the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup and the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, with five weekends each for 2022. Each race meeting focuses on Sprint Cup OR Endurance Cup exclusively. Óscar Andrés Tunjo (born 5 January 1996) is a Colombian racing driver. Career Karting Born in Cali, Tunjo began his racing career in karting at the age of five in Colombian championships, collecting titles in various classes. In 2007 he moved to Europe, and competed in local karting series. Formula BMW Tunjo made his début in single-seaters in 2010 at the age of fourteen, taking part in the Formula BMW Pacific series for Meritus. Christopher Mies (born 24 May 1989) is a professional German racing driver who currently competes for Audi Sport in GT3 series such as ADAC GT Masters and GT World Challenge Europe. Career Mies began his career in 2006 in the Toyota Yaris Cup Germany, followed in 2007 by the Ford Fiesta Cup Germany. While racing a Ford Fiesta ST he won Division 2 of the ADAC Procar Series in 2008. Charles Weerts (born 1 March 2001) is a Belgian racing driver who currently competes in the GT World Challenge Europe. On December 8 2022 Weerts was announced as a factory driver for BMW M Motorsport where he'll continue to drive for Team WRT. The Audi R8 (Type 4S) is the second generation of the R8 sports car manufactured by German automobile manufacturer Audi. W Racing Team (WRT) is a Belgian auto racing team founded in 2009 by engineer and former head of Volkswagen Motorsport René Verbist, racing driver Vincent Vosse, and entrepreneur Yves Weerts.
