2019 California 8 Hours
The 2019 California 8 Hours was the third edition of the California 8 Hours race held on WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on March 30, 2019. The race was contested with GT3-spec cars, "GT Cup" for one-make spec cars, and GT4-spec cars. The race was organized by the Stéphane Ratel Organisation (SRO). The third and final California 8 Hours was the second round of the 2019 Intercontinental GT Challenge. The event was replaced on the Intercontinental GT Challenge calendar by the Indianapolis 8 Hour. The race was won by Taiwanese Ferrari team HubAuto Corsa. The Ferrari 488 GT3 completed 327 laps in the allotted eight hours, making a race distance of over 730 miles. Miguel Molina, Nick Foster and Tim Slade beat Hong Kong Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing by twelve seconds. American Porsche team Park Place Motorsports was third. The GT4 European Series is a sports car championship created and organised by SRO Motorsports Group. It is a pro/am championship which followed a formula similar to the FIA GT3 European Championship, which was itself derived from the FIA GT Championship which utilized the GT1 and GT2 classes. The GT4 class cars are the least powerful of the four classes, yet are equalised in order to allow driving skill to become key. KC Motorgroup Ltd, known as KCMG, is an auto racing team based in Hong Kong. Founded by former racing driver Paul Ip in 2007, KCMG has participated in a variety of championships across the world in touring car, sports car, and open-wheel racing. Frédéric Vervisch ( ; born 10 August 1986 in Kortrijk) is a Belgian racing driver who currently races in the GT World Challenge Europe. Career Early career A winner of numerous karting championships, Vervisch moved to auto racing in 2003 making a single start in the Formula Three French Cup and immediately won upon his debut. Following that initial success, he participated in the entire 2004 Formula Three French Cup championship and finished runner-up. Formula Renault In 2005 Vervisch moved to the Formula Renault 3.5 series, participating with GD Racing in 4 rounds with a best result of 12th in Zolder in a race won by Robert Kubica. Dries Vanthoor (born 20 April 1998 in Heusden-Zolder) is a racing driver from Belgium. He currently competes in the GT World Challenge Europe and ADAC GT Masters for Audi. He is the younger brother of Laurens, and was the winner of the 2018 Bathurst 12 Hour alongside Robin Frijns and Stuart Leonard. Christopher Haase (born 26 September 1987 in Kulmbach) is a German professional racing driver. He became the FIA GT3 European Champion in 2009, racing for Lamborghini and Reiter Engineering, and raced in GT1 for the first time in 2010. He achieved considerable success in the 2014 season, sharing the winning Audi R8 LMS in the Nurburgring 24 Hours, and finishing second in the GTD class of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship in America. Audi R8 (Type 4S)
The Audi R8 (Type 4S) is the second generation of the R8 sports car manufactured by German automobile manufacturer Audi. The Type 4S is based on the Lamborghini Huracán and shares its platform and engine. The Type 4S was introduced at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and its production began in late 2015. Development Development of the Type 4S began in 2013 and prototypes began testing in early-2014. The Type 4S is based on the Modular Sports System platform shared with the Lamborghini Huracán. The V10 engine used in the Huracàn was detuned for the base model while the power output of the engine remained the same as the Huracàn for the V10 plus model. W Racing Team (WRT) is a Belgian auto racing team founded in 2009 by engineer and former head of Volkswagen Motorsport René Verbist, racing driver Vincent Vosse, and entrepreneur Yves Weerts. Since 2010 the team campaigns Audi R8 LMSs in several international sports car series. In 2010 the team won the Belcar Drivers' and Teams' Championships, while in 2011 they won the Spa 24 Hours. Group GT3, known technically as Cup Grand Touring Cars and commonly referred to as simply GT3, is a set of regulations maintained by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) for grand tourer racing cars designed for use in various auto racing series throughout the world.
