2019 Australia Day Honours
The 2019 Australia Day Honours are appointments Australian honours system, to various orders and honours to recognise and reward good works by Australian citizens. The list was announced on 26 January 2019 by the Governor General of Australia, Peter Cosgrove, Sir Peter Cosgrove. The Australia Day Honours are the first of the two major annual honours lists, the first announced to coincide with Australia Day (26 January), with the other being the Queen's Birthday Honours, which are announced on the second Monday in June. Australian Honours System
The Australian honours and awards system refers to all Order (distinction), orders, decorations, and medals, as instituted by letters patent from the Monarchy of Australia, Monarch of Australia and countersigned by the Australian prime minister at the time, that have been progressively introduced since 14 February 1975. The Australian honours and awards system excludes all state and local government, and private, issued awards and medals (although a few can be recognised in the Australian Honours Order of Wearing, order of wearing, like those in the Order of Saint John (chartered 1888), Order of St John). Honours and awards have been present in Australia since pre-Federation of Australia, Federation, primarily from the Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom, Imperial honours and awards system. Barry Coulter
Barry Francis Coulter (born 27 December 1948) is a former Australian politician. He was a Country Liberal Party member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 1983 to 1999, representing the electorates of Berrimah, Palmerston and Blain. Jennifer Coate
Jennifer Ann Coate (born 8 February 1953)''Who's Who in Australia'', ConnectWeb (2017). is an Australian jurist. Coate was a Judge of the Family Court of Australia and one of the six Royal Commissioners appointed by the Australian government Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. Anna Elizabeth Burke (born 1 January 1966) is a former Australian politician and current Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Malcolm William Broomhead (born 11 September 1952) is an Australian businessman who has held various directorships and senior positions in the Australian engineering, industrial and resources sectors. Muriel Pauline Bamblett is a Yorta Yorta and Dja Dja Wurrung advocate for Aboriginal child welfare in Victoria and Australia. Biography Bamblett has been the chief executive of Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA), since 1999. She is also an adjunct professor in the School of Social Work and Social Policy at La Trobe University. From 1998 to 2008 she was the chair of the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC). She was the first woman in the Australian Public Service to be appointed as a Secretary of an Australian government department. Warren Truss
Warren Errol Truss, (born 8 October 1948) is a former Australian politician who served as the 16th Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development in the Abbott Government and the Turnbull Government. Truss served as the federal leader of the National Party of Australia (The Nationals) between 2007 and 11 February 2016 when he announced his decision to retire and not contest the 2016 federal election. Patrick Troy
Patrick Nicol Troy (22 January 1936 – 24 July 2018) was an Australian academic who served as Vale Professor Emeritus at Australian National University. He was born in Geraldton, Western Australia, the eldest son of Patrick Laurence Troy and Mabel Nielson, who had married in the previous year. Troy was raised in Fremantle and trained as a civil engineer. Before joining academia, he was secretary of the Maritime Services Union in Perth and a founder of the Trades and Labour Council of Western Australia. He joined the faculty of Australian National University in 1965 and retired in 2011. Over the course of his career, Troy was named an Officer of the Order of Australia and granted fellowship by the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia.
