2019 Akwa Ibom State Gubernatorial Election
The 2019 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial election occurred on March 10, 2019. Incumbent PDP Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel won re-election for a second term, defeating Nsima Ekere of the APC. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel won the primary election after he was returned as the sole candidate. He picked Moses Ekpo as his running mate. Nsima Ekere was the APC candidate with Amadu Jackson Attai as his running mate. 45 candidates contested in the election. Electoral system The Governor of Akwa Ibom State is elected using the plurality voting system. Primary election PDP primary Udom Gabriel Emmanuel won the primary election after he was returned as the sole candidate. He picked Amadu Jackson Attai as his running mate. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel (born 11 July 1966) is a Nigerian politician who is currently the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, in office since 29 May 2015. He contested for the office of governor in the April 2015 elections on the platform of People's Democratic Party. He was re-elected as the governor of Akwa Ibom State on May 29, 2019. Ikot Abasi is located in the south west corner of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. It is bounded by Oruk Anam Local Government Area in the north, Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas in the east and the Atlantic Ocean in the south. The Imo River forms the natural boundary in the west separating it from Rivers State. People The people of Ikot Abasi are made up of the Ibibio ethnic group with diverse cultural heritage and tradition. They speak the Ibibio language. Mkpat-Enin
Mkpat-Enin is located in the South South region of Nigeria and is a town and a Local Government Area (LGA) of Akwa Ibom State. It sits at an altitude of approximately above sea level. Mkpat Enin LGA has an area of and it's the second largest local government area in Akwa Ibom state. The LGA is located within the industrial belt extending from Eastern Obolo, Etinan, Oruk Anam, Onna, to Ikot Abasi. The people are traditionally Ibibio speakers. The population was 178,036 based on the 2006 census. The area is rich in oil and natural gas; oil was discovered in Ikot Akpa/Ekop as early as 1953. Udung-Uko
Udung-Uko is a Local Government Area of Nigeria located in the south east Akwa Ibom State that was created in December 1996. Udung Uko is one of the Oro language speaking local government areas of Akwa Ibom State bounded by Mbo, Akwa Ibom to the south, Oron, Akwa Ibom to the north, Urue-Offong/Oruko to the west and the Cross River Estuary to the east. Etinan
Etinan is located within the South South part of Nigeria and constitutes one of the Local Government Areas in the oil rich Akwa Ibom State. Known for its agricultural and arts craft products, the area forms one of the most peaceful locations in the West African State of Nigeria. Ukanafun
Ukanafun is located in the South South of Nigeria and is a Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Ukanafun was carved out from Abak and Opobo divisions of Cross River State. The Nigerian Civil war depopulated the area and slowed economic activities of the people. The Ukanafun area is yet to recover from the shock of the civil war not to talk of ethnic politics that have made one of the great commercial nerve centres of the people of Annang extraction almost completely reduced to the background due to the absence of a good road network that once characterised the area in the time of the colonial masters. Eket
Eket is one of the 31 local government areas in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The name ''Eket'' or Ekid also refers to the indigenous ethnic group of the region and to their language. The Eket people use the endonym ''Ekid'' for themselves and their language, but Europeans spell and pronounce the name as "Eket".
