2019 Adamawa State Gubernatorial Election
The 2019 Adamawa State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on March 9, 2019. PDP candidate Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri won the election, defeating Bindo Jibrilla of the APC. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri emerged PDP gubernatorial candidate after scoring 1,656 votes and defeating his closest rival, Mohammed Jameel who received 465 votes. He picked Martins Babale as his running mate. Bindo Jibrilla was the APC candidate with Crowther Seth as his running mate. 29 candidates contested in the election. Electoral system The Governor of Adamawa State is elected using the plurality voting system. Primary election PDP primary The PDP primary election was held on September 30, 2018. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (born October 27, 1967) is a Nigerian politician and the current Governor of Adamawa State. He was a member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly and was appointed the Speaker of the House. He became the acting Governor of Adamawa State following the impeachment of Admiral Murtala Nyako the former governor of the state, in July 2014, handing later to Bala James Ngilari after serving for three months. After the collation of results of the state gubernatorial election on the 9th of March 2019, Fintiri emerged as winner of the election with the highest number of votes. However, the election was declared inconclusive because the number of cancelled votes was moregreatern the margin between the winner and his close opponent. Mayo-Belwa, is a Local Government Area in Adamawa State, Nigeria. It had an estimated population of about 204,200 people as of 2016. It shares boundary with Taraba State to the west. The settlement was founded by the Bata of the Mayo Ine valley during their war with Lamido Lawal and was called Gabalwa. Lawal's forces gained control of the settlement shortly after its establishment, resulting in a change of its current name, Mayo-Belwa.
