2018 Úrvalsdeild Kvenna (football)
The 2018 Úrvalsdeild kvenna is the 47th season of the women's football top-level league in Iceland. Þór/KA is the defending champion. The season is scheduled to begin on 3 May and to conclude on 22 September. Teams The 2018 Úrvalsdeild kvenna is contested by ten teams, eight of which played in the division the previous year and two teams promoted from 1. deild kvenna. The bottom two teams from the previous season, Haukar and Fylkir, were relegated to the 1. deild kvenna and were replaced by HK/Víkingur and Selfoss, champions and runners-up of the 2017 1. deild kvenna respectively. Úrvalsdeild Kvenna (football)
The Besta deild kvenna is the top-tier women's football league in Iceland. It features 10 teams that play a double round robin to decide the champion, which qualifies for a spot in the UEFA Women's Champions League. The 2022 season was the first season of the league after it was rebranded as ''Besta deild kvenna''; previously, it had been named Úrvalsdeild kvenna. History The Icelandic women's tournament began in 1972. Eight teams competed in two groups and the top team from each group, FH and Ármann. met in a final where FH won 2–0. In 1976, only five team registered for competition so the group arrangement was abandoned and instead the teams played in one division with home and away games. The following years, fewer and fewer teams participated, due to lack of training, lack of access to Grass fields, and little or none youth programs. Hafnarfjörður
Hafnarfjörður (), officially Hafnarfjarðarkaupstaður (), is a port town and municipality in Iceland, located about south of Reykjavík. The municipality consists of two non-contiguous areas in the Capital Region, on the southwest coast of the country. Selfoss () is a town in southern Iceland on the banks of the Ölfusá river. It is the seat of the municipality of Árborg. Vestmannaeyjar
Vestmannaeyjar (, sometimes anglicized as Westman Islands) is a municipality and archipelago off the south coast of Iceland. The largest island, Heimaey, has a population of 4,414, most of whom live in the archipelago's main town, Vestmannaeyjabær. The other islands are uninhabited, although six have single hunting cabins. ÍBV Women's Football
The ÍBV women's football team is the women's football department of the ÍBV-íþróttafélag (English: ÍBV sports club) multi-sport club. It is based in Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland, and currently plays in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top-tier women's football league in Iceland. The team plays it home games at the Hásteinsvöllur. ÍBV has won the Icelandic Cup twice, in 2004 and 2017. History ÍBV women's team first played in 1993, in the Icelandic second-tier 1. deild kvenna (then named 2. deild kvenna) but folded after five games. Kórinn () is an indoor multipurpose auditorium located in Kópavogur and built in 2007. It includes an indoor football stadium which meets all the international standards set by the International Football Association FIFA. HK/Víkingur was a women's football team located in Iceland. It was a joint team of Handknattleiksfélag Kópavogs and Víkingur Reykjavík. The collaboration started in 2001 and played four times in the top-tier Úrvalsdeild kvenna, won the 1. deild kvenna twice and played five times in the finals of the 1. deild kvenna. After the 2019 season, the teams decided to end their eighteen years of collaboration.
