2018 USA Outdoor Track And Field Championships
The 2018 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships were held at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Organized by USA Track & Field, the four-day competition took place June 21–24 and serves as the national championships in track and field for the United States. Ameer Kenneth Webb (born March 19, 1991) is an American sprinter specializing in the 100 m and 200 m. College career At Texas A&M Webb was the 200 meter champion at the 2013 NCAA Men's Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships and the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Prior to Texas A&M he ran for Cerritos College, where he was the 2011 CCCAA State Champion in both the 100 meters and 200 meters. He had run for Tustin High School, finishing fifth in the 200 meters at the 2009 CIF California State Meet behind Randall Carroll's sweep of both sprinting events. Izaic Yorks (born April 17, 1994) is an American middle-distance and long-distance runner. Yorks won 1500 m at 2018 NACAC Championships. As a Washington Huskies, Izaic Yorks is an eight-time NCAA Division 1 All-American cross country and Track and field runner. Professional Izaic Yorks signed with Brooks in June 2016. The Men's race featured four Furman Elite athletes battling it out with Brooks Beasts' Izaic Yorks. The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run (typically pronounced 'fifteen-hundred metres') is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately miles. Erik Sowinski (born December 21, 1989) is an American middle-distance runner. He competed in the 800 metres event at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships and 2015 World Championships. He holds the former American indoor record in the 600 meters. Early life Sowinski was born on December 21, 1989 in Waukesha, WI to Bryan and Jane Sowinski. He has two younger siblings, Andy and Emily. Running for Waukesha West High School, Erik won the 800m at the 2008 WIAA Wisconsin State Meet. Isaiah "Lefty" Harris (July 2, 1925 – September 18, 2001) was an American professional baseball pitcher in Negro league baseball who played for the Memphis Red Sox from 1949 to 1956. Early life and career Harris was born in Parkin, Arkansas and pitched for black amateur baseball teams near Parkin before joining the Memphis Red Sox in 1949. Clayton Murphy (born February 26, 1995) is an American middle-distance runner. He won the bronze medal in the 800-meter run at the 2016 Olympic Games. He was the gold medalist in the 800-meter run at the 2015 Pan American Games. He ran collegiately for the University of Akron, before signing with Nike, Inc., Nike in June 2016 and joining the Nike Oregon Project. 800 Meters
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m.
