2018 USAC Silver Crown Series
The 2018 USAC Silver Crown Champ Car Series is the 47th season of Silver Crown racing under the USAC banner. The series will begin with the Phoenix Copper Cup at ISM Raceway on April 7, and will end with the 4 Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway on September 22. Kody Swanson entered the 2018 season as the defending champion. Swanson won the 2018 season title, becoming a 4-time series champion. Swanson also joined Al Unser as one of the only two drivers in history to win four consecutive Hoosier Hundred races in a row in 2018. Swanson also became the all-time wins leader in Silver Crown at Salem with 24 wins. Jerry Coons Jr. (born April 21, 1972) is an American racecar driver. He currently competes in the United States Auto Club sprint car, midget, and Silver Crown divisions. He is one of only six drivers to win the USAC Triple Crown, with championships in the USAC Sprint Car, Midget, and Silver Crown divisions. At the close of the 2017 season, Coons has 19 USAC Midget wins, 17 USAC Sprint Car wins, and 7 USAC Silver Crown wins. Racing career Short Track Racing Coons began his racing career at the age of five, driving quarter midgets with his father Jerry, Sr. In the late 1980s, Coons began racing midget cars at the age of 14 in and around Arizona racetracks such as Manzanita Speedway, Raven Raceway, and El Paso Speedway Park. Terre Haute Action Track (also The Action Track) is a half-mile dirt racetrack located at the Vigo County, Indiana, fairgrounds on U.S. Route 41 along the south side of Terre Haute, Indiana. The track hosts annual United States Automobile Club (USAC) midget car, sprint car and Silver Crown events. Notable drivers that have competed at the track include A. J. Foyt, Jeff Gordon, Parnelli Jones, and Tony Stewart. The track has held events sanctioned by USAC, its predecessor American Automobile Association (AAA), and the World of Outlaws. Phoenix Raceway is a 1-mile, low-banked tri-oval race track located in Avondale, Arizona, near Phoenix, Arizona, Phoenix. The motorsport track opened in 1964 and currently hosts two NASCAR race weekends annually including the final championship race since 2020. BCSN is a regional sports network founded in 2003 (and first went on the air on January 7, 2004) to carry sports broadcasting, which had previously been aired on fellow cable-only station WT05. Overview The station airs Toledo Mud Hens games, BGSU ice hockey and other BGSU sports, University of Toledo sports, high school sports including the Northwest Hockey Conference, college basketball, and other sports games. Hemelgarn Racing is an American auto racing team owned by Ron Hemelgarn. The team debuted in 1985, and competed in the CART and Indy Racing League ranks until the team originally shut down in 2010. The team returned to competition in 2015, and currently competes full-time in the USAC Silver Crown Series with driver Justin Grant. Grant won the 2020 championship for the team. The team won the 1996 Indianapolis 500 and 2000 Indy Racing League Championship with driver Buddy Lazier. The team had a best finish of 7th in the CART standings. Justin Grant (born November 12, 1990) is an American racing driver from Ione, California. Grant is the 2020 USAC Silver Crown National Champion and the 2022 USAC National Sprint Car Champion. Racing career Midget Racing Grant spent his early career racing Midget car racing, midgets in California.
