2018 Tokyo Marathon
The 2018 Tokyo Marathon ( ja, 東京マラソン 2018) was the twelfth edition of the annual marathon race in Tokyo and was held on Sunday, 25 February. An IAAF Gold Label Road Race, it was the first World Marathon Majors event to be held that year. The men's race was won by Dickson Chumba in 2:05:30 hours while the women's race was won by Birhane Dibaba in 2:19:51. The men's runner-up Yuta Shitara set a Japanese national record time of 2:06:11 hours. This was also an Asian record. The host nation featured prominently in the men's race, with two runners in the top five and six of the top ten being Japanese. The Japanese women fared less well, with sixth-place Hiroko Yoshitomi being the best national performer (over ten minutes behind the winner). Around 35,500 runners took part in the marathon races, with a further 500 taking part in a 10K run linked to the event. Tokyo Big Sight
, officially known as , is a convention and exhibition center in Tokyo, Japan, and the largest one in the country. Opened in April 1996, the center is located in the Ariake Minami district of on the Tokyo Bay waterfront. Its most iconic feature is the visually distinctive Conference Tower. is a Japanese wheelchair athlete. Career Hokinoue's career began at the age of 30, ten years after he sustained a spinal cord injury in a motorcycle accident. His first major championship marathon was at the 2008 Summer Paralympics, where he placed 6th with a time of 1:23:22. Helah Kiprop Jelagat (born 7 April 1985) is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who competes in the half marathon and marathon. Her personal bests for the events are 1:07:39 minutes and 2:21:27 hours, respectively. She has won the Berlin Half Marathon, the Egmond Half Marathon and the Zwolle Half Marathon. Amy Cragg (née Hastings; born January 21, 1984) is an American track and field athlete, specializing in long distance running events. She is the 2015 American champion in the Marathon, the 2012 American champion in the 10,000 meters, and a qualifier for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Early career Hastings went to high school at Leavenworth High School in Leavenworth, Kansas. During her career, she captured three state titles on the track and won the state cross country championships. Ruti Aga (born 16 January 1994) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. She won the women's race at the 2019 Tokyo Marathon and secured five other top three finishes at the World Marathon Majors. In 2012, Aga won the silver medal in the women's 5000 metres at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics held in Barcelona, Spain. Meseret Defar Tola (Amharic: መሠረት ደፋር; born 19 November 1983) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who competes chiefly in the 3000 metres and 5000 metres events. She has won medals at top-tier international competitions including Olympic and World Championship gold medals over 5000 metres. She broke the world record in the event in 2006, broke it again in 2007 and held it until 2008, when fellow Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba beat her time.
