2018 San Diego State Aztecs Baseball Team
The 2018 San Diego State Aztecs baseball team represented San Diego State University in the 2018 NCAA Division I baseball season as a member of the Mountain West Conference. The team was coached by Mark Martinez and played their home games at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Previous season The Aztecs finished 42–21 overall, and 20–10 in the conference. During the season, the Aztecs were invited and participated in the Tony Gwynn Classic in San Diego, California. San Diego State defeated Notre Dame to earn 5th place. In the postseason, San Diego State defeated New Mexico in the semifinals and Fresno State twice in the quarterfinals and championship to earn 1st place in the 2017 Mountain West Conference baseball tournament in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mark Martinez
Mark Eastman Martinez (born December 18, 1961) is an American college baseball coach and former shortstop. He is the head baseball coach at San Diego State University. Martinez played college baseball at Mesa State College from 1982 to 1984. Martinez was previously assistant coach under Tony Gwynn at San Diego State from 2006 to 2014. Nearly two months after Gwynn's death, San Diego State promoted Martinez to head coach on August 20, 2014. 2017 Major League Baseball Draft
The 2017 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft began on June 12, 2017. The draft assigned amateur baseball players to MLB teams. The first 36 picks, including the first round and compensatory picks, were broadcast on MLB Network on June 12, while the remainder of the draft was live streamed on MLB.com on June 13 and 14. With the worst record in the 2016 MLB season, the Minnesota Twins received the first overall pick. Compensation picks were distributed for players who did not sign from the 2016 MLB Draft. Also, fourteen small-market teams competed in a lottery for additional competitive balance picks, with six teams receiving an additional pick after the first round, and eight teams receiving an additional pick after the second round. Cypress is a city in northwestern Orange County within Southern California. Its population was 50,151 at the 2020 census. History The first people living in the area now known as Cypress were the Gabrieleno, a Native American tribe of the Tongva people, who were displaced soon after the arrival of the Europeans.
